Located 8 miles northeast of Ogallala, NE, Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area is managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. At 22 miles long and 140 feet deep at capacity, Lake McConaughy offers year-round recreation. Built on the edge of the Nebraska Sandhills, Lake Mac's white sand beaches earn it the nickname "the Caribbean of the Midwest." Completed in 1941, Kingsley Dam is among the largest of its type in the world. Abundant fishing includes walleye, wiper, large and smallmouth bass, pike and catfish. Nebraska’s current state walleye record of 16 lbs. 2 oz. Located just below Kingsley Dam, Lake Ogallala (the "little lake") was formed when fill material was removed to build the dam. Lake Ogallala boasts some excellent fishing for rainbow trout and yellow perch. Visit www.ilovelakemac.com for information on places to stay, dine and visit in beautiful Keith County.
