Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department The Ogallala Fire Department was founded in 1913 and covers 458 square miles of varied terrain.

Our members respond to structural fires, wildland fires, vehicle accidents, water rescue, and emergency medical calls.

06/30/2026 2241 hours.
OVFD mutual aid to KLFD for severe weather damage with unknown number of injuries to camping public at Lake Mac. KLFD, NGP, KCSO and KC EMS had enough resources at the scene so OVFD was re directed to Little Lake for triage of that area. Finding no injuries to the public and one very angry opossum that evidently got a blue bath when a port-a potty got tossed in the storm, the OVFD resources were released and put back into service.

OVFD paged for small grass fire in the county. Command, one Type6 and Tender responded to the area. FF mopped up a couple small areas next to the roadway. Fortunately, passerby (most likely an engine responding to the Log Road Fire near Crawford) had extinguished the flames prior to arrival. We’d like to thank whoever it was as the wind and fuels in the area would have gotten out of control rapidly. Cause under investigation.

OVFD paged for two vehicle accident in the county during “Guns and Hoses” soft ball game. Players quickly exchanged soft ball attire for turn outs, mounted apparatus and responded from the ball field. Paxton VFD initially requested to MA due to conflicting information Enroute. On arrival, IC cancelled Paxton. Crews extricated one victim and KC EMS treated and transported two. KCSO responded for traffic direction and crash investigation.

County tones for vehicle rollover in the county in dual response area between Paxton and Ogallala. Both agencies along with KC EMS, KCSO, and NSP responded. Crews extricated one victim and KC EMS treated on scene while medical command established Landing Zone for med helicopter to fly victim out. Traffic moved to passing lane for duration of incident. NSP investigating crash.

Ne Forestry representative contacted IC for Strike team Request for the Log Road Fire near Crawford. IC implemented notification process for area departments.

🚒 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT – TRAINING EXERCISE 🚒

The Ogallala Fire Department, along with several neighboring fire departments, will be conducting vehicle extrication and vehicle fire training this evening between 5pm and 10pm behind in the 500 block area of east 1st St ( behind Pizza Hut) in Ogallala.

Residents in the area may notice emergency vehicles, firefighters in full protective gear, smoke, flames, and other emergency activity. This is only a planned training exercise, and there is no cause for alarm.

Training like this is essential to ensuring our firefighters are prepared to safely and effectively respond to serious vehicle accidents and vehicle fires throughout our communities.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work to sharpen these lifesaving skills. If you’re traveling in the area, please use caution and watch for emergency personnel and apparatus.

June 17 2227 hrs
County tones dropped for unknown fire in the county. Updated by KC EOC en route confirmed structure fire. IC requested aid from Big Springs and Grant for additional pumper, tenders, and grass rigs. Sutherland requested for additional personnel for air packs. Incident complexity compounded by limited access to primary structure, winds and low humidity weather carrying embers south of Hwy 61, igniting grass and trees in that area and ammo cooking off. Due to operations being divided by the highway and number of emergency vehicles present, the highway was closed by KCSO, OPD, and NSP until 0330. KC EMS responded for treatment/transport if necessary and FF rehab at the scene. KC EMG Kling responded for documentation, resource allocation assistance, and provided Red Cross info to aid the family. FF wrapped up around 0330 with OVFD personnel staying on scene until 1300 hrs June 18 to address hot spots and whom will continue to monitor the area. Structural integrity issues prevented conventional entry to overhaul and mop up so Fire watch was implemented by IC. Structure not habitable. Unfortunately, the family lost pets to the fire. No responder injuries were reported to IC. NeSFM is investigating the incident. Our thoughts and prayers to the family affected by the incident. Thank you to our M/A emergency responders for their quick, professional response for our request. Thank you to our citizens for the unwavering support for our agencies to provide emergency assistance when needed.

05/31/2026 1914 hours
Ogallala Fire and KC EMS paged for car/deer accident with multiple victims in multiple vehicles in the county. On arrival, found 3 vehicles struck two deer. Southbound vehicle struck deer and propelled it through the windshield of a northbound vehicle. Second deer struck by additional northbound vehicle. NSP and KCSO responded for traffic control and investigation. Victims assessed and treated at scene with two transported.

Ogallala Fire and KC EMS paged for single vehicle accident in the county. Information en route stated power pole compromised, unknown status of victim. On arrival, found pickup truck on its top next to a broken pole with power lines intact but drooping close to the wreck with victim partially ejected. Command advised EOC of situation. EOC informed utility company and they remotely de energized lines. Crews extricated victim and KC EMS transported. KCSO and NSP responded to investigate.
