Thank you to everyone who responded to our questionnaire to request a brick from Taylor Canyon (C.H. Taylor) Elementary School and came to one of our first two controlled distribution events to collect your bricks.

We are providing one final distribution opportunity from January 9 through January 20 (or until all bricks are gone, whichever comes first).
The remaining bricks have been relocated to the eastern exterior of our maintenance building for self pickup.
956 20th Street, Building #11 (see attached images)

Please note the following:
• Individuals assume all risk when obtaining bricks.
• This distribution area is within our video surveillance perimeter.
• It is not necessary to connect with District personnel to receive your brick.
• Please do not take more than you need – 2 per individual or 8 per household maximum. We want everyone who wants a brick for a keepsake to have that opportunity!
• Bricks have mortar attached and many bricks are connected by mortar.
• It is advised to bring a slotted screwdriver to detach connected bricks.
• Most mortar can easily be removed with a hand tool.

I want to catch every one up on a couple exciting things happening at TCES recently:
-We took our 5th grade students to check out the WSU's campus and to watch a WSU basketball game. Note: our ALA choir sang the national anthem at the beginning of the game.
-Our science fair participants did a great job and we had good TCES representation at our district 6th grade science fair. Even our first grade ALA students did some great projects.

Our students had a lot of fun for Read Across America Week. Our PTA helped us to have fun dress up days throughout the week, they invited WSU athletes to read to our students, PTA provided some fun prize give aways throughout the week, and they sponsored a read-a-thon. I also took the opportunity to read a Dr. Seuss book in our monthly assembly. The picture is of our mustache day to celebrate the Lorax Dr. Seuss story - notice all of the yellow mustaches.

Last week Ian Davey (District Technology Teacher Specialist) helped us to sponsor a Family Coding Night. We had about 60 people join us for some dinner and some practice with computer coding. It was fun to see families working together to solve coding puzzles and writing computer code.

It's time for us to share some more celebrations happening at Taylor Canyon! Here are pictures of our Principal Wolf Pack activity for December. We played balloon volleyball with the students who were drawn from our High Paw tickets, and who were nominated as scholars of the month. I have also included pictures of students who earned an ice cream treat because of their classes good behavior during lunch. Finally, there is a picture of some of the Taylor Canyon staff as we prepared to take a walking tour of the new Polk Elementary. We are so excited to be able to enjoy such a beautiful new school next year!

Over the past few weeks, our students have been battling between classes with our penny wars. Penny Wars is a fund raiser that we do each November to raise money to help some of our TCES families with Christmas. Our students also earn rewards from the teachers as they raise money. The rewards are often funny activities that the teachers and staff perform for our Holiday Assembly. Our students earned over $2000 and we had a lot of fun at our assembly. Here is the link for anyone wanting to view the silly rewards that students earned:

This past week we had a great event at Taylor Canyon Elementary School! Our ALA 1st and 2nd grade classes presented their play for family members to attend. We had great support from our parents who attended the event. It was wonderful to be together with some of our community members. Our teachers and students did such a great job! We want to give special thanks to Mrs. Eddy, Ms. Carter and Mrs. Nicholls. Thank you so much!

I want to give another shout out to our PTA and our students. Our PTA has been hosting a school wide Read-a-thon where students track their reading minutes at home. Then the PTA provides rewards for the classes with the most reading minutes logged. One of the rewards was to invite me in this wonderful turkey costume to read a fun book in the winning classroom. Great job students! And, thank you for your support PTA!

Ms. Robinson's ALA class has been making some really fun imaginative creatures using Greek and Latin roots to help them to build vocabulary. Here are some examples. Check out some of our student created words using these roots (i.e. VorVelo-Toxi, Dino-Igna-Sauros, Archea-Cosm-Sauros, etc.).

We had a bunch of fun during this past week's Principal Wolf Pack Activity! Each month I invite students who earn scholar of the month plus another forty students whose names get drawn for High Paw Tickets (Good Behavior) and for completing academic goals to join me for a monthly activity. This past month we had a skate party in the cafeteria. I think the students had a great time! I know I did.
