Weber School District Board Meeting Recap – August 4th 🏫✨

Here’s a quick recap of what went down at our latest school board meeting! From celebrating a century of Warrior pride to keeping our campuses safe, here are the major highlights:

🎂 Weber High Turns 100!
Weber High Principal Ryan Kachold kicked things off with big news as the district’s flagship high school celebrates its 100th anniversary this year!

📈 WHS Academic Wins: 71% of juniors scored an 18+ on the ACT (the best performance since 2016!), sophomore math proficiency jumped to 45%, and low-income students hit a near-100% pass rate on AP exams!

🏆 State First: Weber High became the first and only high school in Utah to achieve Level 2 High Reliability Schools certification for effective teaching.

🏺 Centennial Celebrations: Look forward to a homecoming museum, a digital yearbook archive partnership with Weber State, and a commemorative brick fundraiser for front-entrance improvements!

🛡️ Prioritizing School Safety
The board officially approved a renewed 5-year agreement to maintain 16 School Resource Officers (SROs) across district secondary schools.

Snow Crest Junior High will be upgrading from a part-time officer to a full-time SRO to ensure consistent coverage and safety for students and staff.

📋 Policy & District Updates

Graduation Requirements (Policy 4370): Advanced on first reading to update secondary credit requirements, clarify grade appeal workflows, and support credit recovery options.

Student Clubs (Policy 4540): Reviewed statutory updates regarding non-curricular student organizations to ensure equal access and alignment with state law.

Budget Accounting: The monthly budget report was briefly paused to allow for accurate end-of-fiscal-year reconciliations before the next reporting period.

🙌 Huge thanks to our incredible teachers, school leaders, and community partners for making Weber School District a fantastic place for students to thrive.

Nice work Brady!

FBLA recently held its National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas, bringing together more than 13,400 students from over 2,100 schools to compete in 108 business-related events. Among the competitors was Weber High School student Brady Ferrin, who represented Utah in the Broadcast Journalism event. Brady advanced to the finals after placing in the top two of his preliminary section, competing against 14 other participants.

At the Grand Awards Ceremony on July 2, Brady was recognized as one of the nation's top 10 finalists and earned an impressive 3rd Place finish in Broadcast Journalism. His award-winning presentation highlighted the Stratos Project in Box Elder County.

Congratulations to Brady and his adviser, Alan Rawlins on this outstanding national achievement and for representing Weber High School and Utah with excellence!

As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday this 4th of July, Weber School District is looking back on a remarkable year of patriotism and community! 🇺🇸✨

Throughout the school year, our students and staff have immersed themselves in the history and joy of this milestone. We’ve felt the spirit of freedom alive in our halls through:

🦅 A breathtaking visit from a golden eagle at West Weber Elementary.

🎶 Inspiring, patriotic musical performances by the talented students at Burch Creek Elementary and Silver Ridge Elementary.

✍️ Thoughtful writing challenges, school-wide assemblies, and deeply moving events honoring our local veterans.

Education is the foundation of our community, and seeing our students celebrate the land we call home reminds us how bright our future is. Thank you to the parents, teachers, and community members who support our schools and make Weber County such an incredible place to live, learn, and grow together.
