Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ashby family during this difficult time.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Chaplain David Ashby.

Chaplain Ashby faithfully served both the City of Urbana Fire Department and the City of Champaign Fire Department. Likewise, he also served both the Urbana Police Department and the City of Champaign Police Department. Chaplain Ashby served the CU community for many years, offering guidance, compassion, and unwavering support to our first responders and our community. His dedication touched countless lives, and his presence brought comfort during some of our most difficult moments.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for his many years of service and commitment. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thank you, Chaplain Ashby, for your service to our community. You will be greatly missed. 💙🙏🔥

With dry conditions and harvest near, the Ogden-Royal Fire Protection District is making a list of farmers willing to help on field fires with a tractor & disk/tillage tool if needed.

We know you may not always be available, but when fires get large this is one of the best ways to stop them.

Statement from Interim Fire Chief Tyler Funk
“Last night, two Champaign firefighters and an Arrow Ambulance EMT were seriously injured while responding to assist a person in mental health crisis. Both firefighters remain hospitalized in serious but stable condition. In this case, as in many others, the heroic actions of our firefighters, paramedics, and police officers prevented a more serious outcome. The Champaign Fire Department extends its heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to Lieutenant Courtney Moravek and Firefighter Robert (Bobby) Poynton. We extend our thanks to everyone who answered their call for assistance. We ask the community to keep our first responders in your thoughts and prayers.”

Last night, our department responded to a house fire in Ogden. Thanks to the quick action of our crews and the incredible support from our mutual aid partners, the fire was brought under control safely.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the following departments for answering the call and working side by side with us:
🙏 St. Joe, Homer, Sidney , Gifford, Edge Scott, Arrow Ambulance and CCSO.

Teamwork like this is what keeps our communities safe, and we are truly thankful for the dedication, professionalism, and brotherhood shared on the scene.
