This five-part series titled Roots and Roads is for every family in the Northwoods who has packed a U-Haul, dried a tear on a gravel road, mailed a care package, or driven back up the old highway with the windows down and felt the weight lift from their chest. How special it is to step inside the Town Hall of the Town of Hill and realize you’re standing in a piece of local history. The building is actually the former Leavitt Creek School, a one‑room schoolhouse built in 1907 that served the Finnish families of the area for generations.

By 2011, the old school’s foundation had deteriorated so badly that demolition seemed likely. Instead, the Town Board chose a different path—to restore, preserve, and remodel the structure. Thanks to their commitment, the building was given new life and now continues its service to the community as the present‑day Town Hall.

This is absolutely priceless! While schools in big cities celebrate little, rural America celebrates things that honor hard work, community, and feeding America!

In small communities like Ogema, Wisconsin — population around 700, tucked into the heart of Price County among the pines and frozen lakes — families are living out one of the most profound and universal stories of our time: how to love a place completely, raise children well, and then watch them carry that love somewhere else.

This five-part series, which will appear in the next few weeks, is for every family in the Northwoods who has packed a U-Haul, dried a tear on a gravel road, mailed a care package, or driven back up Highway 13 with the windows down and felt the weight lift from their chest.
