Public Notice: Dog Tag Round-Up
August 23–30, 2026

On behalf of the Mayor and City Council, the City of Oglethorpe will conduct a Dog Tag Round-Up
from August 23 through August 30, 2026.
It has come to our attention that there are still numerous dogs roaming throughout the City of
Oglethorpe that are either unregistered, not properly tagged, or do not appear to have an
identifiable owner. The safety of our children and all of our citizens remains one of our highest
priorities.
With the Macon County School District now back in session, we are taking a proactive approach to
help ensure the safety of students waiting at bus stops, residents who walk or run throughout our
community, and those who travel on foot to local businesses.

During this enforcement period, all dog owners are reminded that dogs must be properly registered
and have the required documentation on file with the City of Oglethorpe. Any dog found without
proper registration or documentation may result in enforcement action, including fines issued to
the owner, as permitted by city ordinance.

All dog registration paperwork must be completed and filed at Oglethorpe City Hall.

The City of Oglethorpe is committed to providing a safe environment for all residents. We believe
in being proactive rather than reactive when it comes to protecting our community, and we
appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us keep our neighborhoods safe.
