On Friday morning, students from both the Welding and Heavy Equipment Repair classes went to the Grove Hill Cemetery to place flags on Veterans graves. The Commander of the Oil City VFW, Mark Carson, contacted Mr. Bob Fugate to ask for volunteers to place flags, so our staff was able to coordinate efforts to help with the project. The students did an excellent job and were asked to say the soldiers name as they placed the flag on the grave.

Commander Mark Carson and VTC employee Bob Fugate are both military Veterans and served 15 months together in Iraq.

On Wednesday, 29 April 2026, the Venango Technology Center's Heavy Equipment class, under the direction of instructor Ryan Lehnortt, boarded a bus for a field trip at 5:30 AM. The first stop was the Cemetery of the Alleghenies National Cemetery in Bridgeville, PA. While at the cemetery Mr. Bob Fugate, Heavy Equipment Program Aide, explained to the students how big the cemetery was, the number of soldiers buried there, the number of burials per day, how to find a grave and, above all, the importance of reverence and respect while there. Before leaving the students requested to say the Pledge of Allegiance at the main flagpole in the cemetery.

The next stop was Anderson Equipment in Bridgeville, PA. While at Anderson Equipment the students were given a tour of their shop, explained what type of work is completed at the shop, and most importantly talked about the apprenticeship program they offer.

On to the next stop, Rosedale Technical Institute in the Bridgeville area. The students were given a tour of the facility that included all the programs offered with special emphasis on the Diesel Technology program. During the stay there the students were provided with lunch.

On to the last stop, Kenworth of Pennsylvania in Leetsdale, PA. While at Kenworth the students were given a shop tour that explained the type of work that is completed at the shop, emphasizing that this facility is now a parts distribution center. Kenworth also explained about their valuable summer internship and apprenticeship programs.

After the completion of the tour at Kenworth the students headed north to return to the Venango Technology Center and arrived at 5:00 PM. Although it was a long day, the students were able to see several different areas that should help them in making decisions toward their future.
