The chips are from untreated wood and ideal for compost or garden mulch. Please feel free to pick up wood chips anytime before November 9th.

This week, we received the North Central Area Special Recognition Award from the Washington Conservation Commission!
 
This award recognizes our work to establish the Okanogan County Water Bank, providing a locally led initiative to preserve our county’s existing water rights. It highlights “the exceptional innovation, technical understanding, community engagement, and strategic planning” that has gone into this project. We will continue these efforts as we work to get the Water Bank fully operational for our community.

UPDATE: Free mobile chipping in Nespelem, Elmer City, & Coulee Dam has been delayed due to a chipping equipment issue. Chipping will resume for these communities next week on Monday and Tuesday the 26th and 27th. Thank you for your patience!

The top 13 photos will be featured in our 2027 calendar distributed county wide and featured on Okanogan CD's social media channels as our photo of the month. We're looking for year-round photos that relate to each month of the year.

Last week we had our first Harvest of the Month, bringing local produce into the classroom at Oroville School District #410 - Oroville Washington. Cucumber from Willowbrook Farms in Carlton was the star, with a lunch time taste test and cooking classes.

In collaboration with Classroom in Bloom, we led lessons for all of kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and life skills classes. Students filled ‘cucumber boats’ with their choice of ingredients such as hummus, tajín, and cream cheese.

It takes bravery to try something new. For some students this was their first time having cucumber and many left with a new favorite vegetable—it’s hard to beat local produce!
