We are proud to be part of the Family Justice Center Alliance family 💙✨

Since 2019, more than 2,600 clients have been served at the VSC. Our incredible Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners have provided nearly 250 forensic medical exams, and 731 children have received compassionate forensic interviews 🧡👧🧒
We are deeply grateful for our community partners — especially Hopeful Horizons and Lowcountry Legal Volunteers — whose collaboration makes this work possible 🤝💛
Victim advocates and prosecutors with the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office continue to work side‑by‑side to bring justice to those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and other vulnerable members of our community ⚖️💜

In high-risk intimate partner violence situations, nearly 80% of victims (79.7%) have experienced non-fatal strangulation (Messing et al., 2018).

Abuse often escalates invisibly. Because strangulation rarely leaves visible external marks, many survivors don't realize how dangerous it truly is to their long-term health and safety.

Symptoms to watch for after a strangulation incident:
• Sore throat, raspy voice, or difficulty swallowing
• Dizziness, confusion, or memory loss
• Tiny red spots (petechiae) around the eyes or face

Always seek urgent medical care after a strangulation incident.

You don't have to navigate safety planning alone. Family Justice Centers provide a single, supportive location where survivors can connect with medical care, advocacy, legal aid, safe housing, and law enforcement support all under one roof.

Meet Vader! 🐾💙

Vader is a sweet German shepherd puppy in training to become a facility dog with the 14th Circuit Victims Services Center. His important mission? Learning how to bring comfort to children and their families when they come to the center for forensic examinations or to meet with our SANE Coordinator, Jennifer Talley, RN, BSN, SANE‑A.

When he’s not busy learning how to be the goodest helper, Vader is busy… well, looking adorable. He lives with VSC Director Michelle Fraser and her family, who are helping him grow, learn, and get ready for his future role.

We’re excited to watch Vader develop into a source of calm, support, and sweetness for the families we serve. Stay tuned for more updates on his training journey! 🐶✨
