From the Office of the Treasurer: UNDER OKLAHOMA LAW, PERSONAL property taxes become delinquent if not paid by December 31, of the year assessed. Once delinquent, the county treasurer issues notice and places a lien on the taxpayer’s real and personal property, initiates a tax warrant through the sheriff to levy or seize property to satisfy the debt. Within 60 days of delinquency, the county treasurer will mail notice and publish it in a local newspaper. If unpaid, the debt is entered into the PERSONAL Property Tax Lien Docket. This PERSONAL property tax lien is superior to almost all other liens, mortgages, or encumbrances on the property. Unpaid PERSONAL property taxes automatically become a lien on any real estate the taxpayer owns in that county, which can prevent you from clearing your real estate title or selling the property until the tax debt is cleared and loss of Homestead Exemption. Once a tax warrant is issued, the sheriff is commanded to seize and sell the taxpayer's personal property. If sufficient personal property cannot be found to cover the debt, the sheriff may levy upon and sell the taxpayer's real estate. Delinquent PERSONAL Property Taxes will be advertised in the Okemah News Leader on June 11 and June 18. Once this list is published, it cannot be altered. To prevent being published, PERSONAL property taxes should be paid in full prior to June 8. Taxes can be viewed and/or paid at oktaxrolls.com. To view all years delinquent, check the box for all years and the box for unpaid tax only. Please call 918-623-1494 with any questions.
