Happy Birdability Week!

This year’s theme, Bird Where You Are, is a reminder that birding looks different for everyone. You don’t need to hike long distances, know every species, or bird a certain way to enjoy the birds around you. There’s a place for everyone in the birding community!

Explore Birdability’s crowd-sourced map to discover accessible birding locations, including Michigan Audubon sanctuaries. If you’re out birding, consider contributing to the map to help others find welcoming places to enjoy birds, too.

Chapter leaders from across the state came together this September for Michigan Audubon’s second annual Chapter Leadership Conference!

The conference offered opportunities to connect, share ideas, and celebrate the work happening across our chapter network. Michigan Audubon staff shared program highlights, resources, and led a fun Bird on the Back activity from our Bird by Bird Education programs. We also featured an informative panel on Bird City Michigan chapters and how chapters can get involved.

We celebrated the accomplishments of chapters across the state, naming Grand Rapids Audubon Club as 2026 Chapter of the Year, and recognizing the leadership of our newly merged chapter, Livingston Audubon Naturalists!

Thank you to all the chapter leaders who joined us and for the time, energy, and dedication you bring to your communities and Michigan Audubon’s mission!

Happy World Migratory Bird Day!

As birds travel through Michigan on their fall migration, our forests, wetlands, shorelines, and other habitats provide important places to rest and refuel along the way.

This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observation Matters,” reminds us that every sighting can make a difference. Share your observations through eBird, support local monitoring efforts, and practice respectful birding practices in your community. The more we learn about the birds passing through Michigan, the better equipped we are to protect them.
