I’m excited to be officially presiding over my first Appropriations & Budget (A&B) Health Subcommittee meeting as Chairman today! We’ll be listening to budget performance reviews from several agencies. These will be streamed live on the House website at:

I was out of town when this failed last week. I was happy to have been able to add my name as a co-author and to vote it through overwhelmingly today. This should be a no-brainer.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved bipartisan legislation prohibiting the use of corporal punishment on students with disabilities with a vote of 84-8. Read more: https://www.okhouse.gov/posts/news-20230320_4

I’m proud to have passed my first two bills of this legislative session off the House floor today.

HB2789 modifies the VPO statute to require “a need to prevent further victimization” before granting a protective order. A change in the law last year allowed any victim of a crime to request a VPO. This has resulted in frivolous and retaliatory VPO filings clogging our court dockets, and negatively impacting the ability of domestic violence and stalking victims to seek protection under the law. This passed the House 93-0 today.

HB2793 modifies the membership requirements of the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision to allow faculty, staff, regents, or shareholders of a medical school to serve on the board. This was previously prohibited for allopathic physicians, but no such prohibition was applied to the Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners. This passed the House 91-3 today.
