🌬️ Strong Cold Front Bringing High Winds & Fire Danger

A mixed bag of weather factors is headed our way this weekend. A strong cold front will move into Oklahoma early Sunday morning, bringing very strong winds, increased wildfire risk, and a much colder start to Monday.

The front is expected to enter from the northwest around sunrise Sunday and move across the state, reaching southeast Oklahoma by early afternoon.

⚠️ Wind Impacts
• Sustained north-northwest winds of 30–40 mph
• Possible gusts from 45–60 mph
• Areas east of I-35 and south of I-40 may see slightly lower gusts

🌫️ Additional Concerns
• Blowing dust may reduce visibility in some areas
• High-profile vehicles could have difficulty traveling
• Power outages are possible due to strong winds

🔥 Fire Weather
Very strong winds combined with dry conditions will create extremely hazardous wildfire conditions. Please avoid outdoor burning or activities that could spark a fire.

⚠️ A HIGH WIND WARNING is currently in effect for the western half of Oklahoma and western north Texas.

Severe weather season is here, and I want to encourage everyone in our community to take tornado safety seriously.

Please take a few minutes today to review your safety plan with your family. Identify the safest place in your home — a small, interior room on the lowest floor away from windows — and make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Our emergency management teams and first responders are ready, but preparation starts at home. Staying weather aware can save lives.

Let’s continue looking out for one another and keeping our community safe. 🌪️

I believe investing in our team is one of the best ways to ensure we continue delivering high-quality service to the residents of Oklahoma County.

This week, several members of our team traveled to Las Vegas to attend CONEXPO-CON/AGG, where they learned about the latest advancements in heavy equipment, infrastructure technology, and industry best practices. Opportunities like this allow our staff to bring new ideas and innovations back to Oklahoma County so we can continue improving the work we do every day.

Proud of this team and their commitment to serving our community.

Today we had the solemn honor of welcoming former Oklahoma County Commissioner and Del City Mayor Harry Currie back to the Oklahoma County Courthouse, where he lie in repose on the second floor so the public, county employees, and community leaders could pay their respects.

Lying in repose is the highest honor Oklahoma County can bestow upon a citizen, and it is a reflection of the lasting impact Commissioner Currie had on our community. From his service to Oklahoma County to his leadership in Del City, his life was defined by dedication to public service and the people he represented.

This morning we gathered with his family, judges, elected officials, and members of the public for a brief arrival ceremony that included TAPS and remarks honoring his legacy. Throughout the day, many stopped by to reflect on the life of a man who gave so much to our county.

This afternoon, we will close the day with a brief departure ceremony on the south steps of the courthouse, standing together in gratitude and respect as we say our final farewell.

On behalf of a grateful county, we thank Commissioner Harry Currie for a lifetime of service to Oklahoma County. His legacy will not be forgotten.

Thankful for the women who raised us, those who molded us, and those who chose us. 💐

I come from generations of strong-willed, accomplished, trailblazing women whose courage and determination continue to inspire me every day. Their legacy is a reminder that progress is built on the strength, resilience, and leadership of women who came before us.

Happy Women’s History Month. 💜
