๐ŸŒฑ From Southeast Seedlings to Western Shelterbelts! ๐Ÿ’จ
Take a look at whatโ€™s growing down at our forest research station in Idabel! Our team is currently planting Arizona Cypress seeds into specialized tubes to prepare for the upcoming planting season.
While the Arizona Cypress isn't native to Oklahoma, it plays a vital role in our state's conservation efforts. Because of its incredible drought resistance and dense, evergreen foliage, this hardy tree is one of our top choices for shelterbelts and windbreaks in western Oklahoma.
Once these seedlings are strong enough, theyโ€™ll head west to help our agricultural producers block punishing winds, protect valuable topsoil from erosion, and shelter livestock. Itโ€™s a true team effort across the state, that starts in the east to protect the west!
๐Ÿ‘‡ Looking to establish a windbreak or conservation plot on your acreage?
Our seedling store opens for orders in early October. Plan ahead to secure your Oklahoma-grown seedlings for the spring planting window!

Decreasing fire danger indices are expected in the next few days with higher relative humidity values, cloud cover and rain chances in the mix. While lightning potential remains in place, probability of successful initial attack has improved. While a large fire (>300 acres cannot be ruled out, significant fire potential has diminished in the Panhandle, northwest and western tier counties. In this edition of the Oklahoma Wildfire Situation Report, we have included links to the pertinent fire weather and fuels data that can be referenced for local fire danger.

It is an absolute honor to partner with the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum in the care of the Survivor Tree and all the trees at the memorial. There are many others within the community that donate time and resources to the care of the Survivor Tree. It takes a village, but thatโ€™s the Oklahoma Standard.

Moderating fire weather in the Panhandle, northwest and western tier of counties will aid in lowering fire danger indices today. Rain/storm chances increase this evening over the recent fires in the Oklahoma Panhandle with optimism for wetting rainfall amounts building in through Friday. Ahead of that rain opportunity, lightning ignition potential continues although not quite as concerning as in previous days. Nonetheless, any fire occurring in vicinity of a storm cell may produce erratic fire behavior. OFS continues to have suppression resources prepositioned in the Panhandle and northwest today.

Following several days of very active burning conditions in the Oklahoma Panhandle, fire danger relaxes a bit following a cold front passage. Wildland fuels in the Panhandle, northwest and western tier counties remain available although cooler temperatures, improved relative humidity values and comparably less wind will moderate fire spread potential affording improved opportunity for successful suppression efforts on new wildfires. Remain vigilant Oklahoma!
