Big Win for Bixby Traffic Flow!
I received confirmation today from the Oklahoma Turnpike Director that wide load restrictions have been lifted on the Creek Turnpike.
That means the only wide loads you should now see coming through Bixby are those that actually have Bixby as their destination or specifically requested this route.
For years, I’ve questioned why oversized loads were being routed off the Creek Turnpike, down Memorial Dr (Hwy 64), then across 151st St (Hwy 67), only to get back on Highway 75 and head south. It made no sense, especially with the congestion we already deal with every day.
We learned the issue was the width of the old toll booths on the turnpike. Those booths are no longer in use, and the restriction has now been removed.
This is a big deal for our district.
Fewer unnecessary oversized loads moving through town means smoother traffic flow, safer commutes, and less wear and tear on Memorial and 151st. These heavy loads put significant stress on pavement, so keeping through traffic on the turnpike helps protect our local infrastructure.
Sometimes progress isn’t flashy. But you never know if there is a better solution until you ask the question and follow it through.
Thank you to ODOT Director Tim Gatz and OTA Director Joe Echelle for working with us to get this resolved.
Proud to keep working for Bixby and fighting for common sense improvements like this.
