This training is free of charge through a partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Our mission is to promote motorcycle safety by providing hands on training with the overall goal being to reduce the number of collisions involving motorcycles.

Again, this course is FREE, and upon completion each rider will receive a certificate to provide to their insurance provider for a Safe Rider discount. Riders ride their own motorcycles and will be required to have their valid motorcycle endorsement as well as show proof of liability insurance on the day of the course. Riders are also required to wear a helmet, long pants and gloves for duration of the training.

Free motorcycle skills course in El Reno! Help us spread the word to anyone who rides.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Motor Unit will be hosting a Safe Rider motorcycle safety/skills course Saturday, October 24th. This training opportunity is a partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation through a federal grant. Our Safe Rider courses are held every Spring and Fall across our great state in hopes to promote motorcycle safety with the overall goal of reducing collisions involving motorcycles.

This training is free to the riders and upon completion the rider will receive a certificate to provide to their insurance provider for a Safe Rider discount. Riders will ride their own motorcycles and be required to helmet, long pants, and gloves for the duration of the training.

ATTENTION SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA MOTORCYCLE RIDERS! It is brutally hot outside, but Fall is just around the corner.

We will be kicking off our Fall 2026 Safe Rider motorcycle safety courses in Durant on August, 29th. We only have 5 spots remaining, so sign up before the course gets full!

This training is 100% free to the public.

Whether they like to brag about it or not, our Safe Rider instructors know a thing or two about riding motorcycles. As Oklahoma Highway Patrol State Troopers assigned to the Motor Unit, they perform one of the most demanding—and statistically one of the most dangerous—jobs in law enforcement. That's why they don't just encourage training; they're committed to continually sharpening their own skills.

Last week, they were invited to attend a training day at Hallett Raceway in Jennings, where they focused on high-speed cornering techniques. Operating motorcycles at high speeds is an inevitable part of their job, making this type of advanced training invaluable.

A huge shout-out to the Tulsa Police Department Motor Unit for the invitation and the opportunity to train together!

May is motorcycle safety awareness month. What better way to close out the month than by offering our Safe Rider motorcycle skills/safety course FREE OF CHARGE, if you register today!

But here is the catch, our courses are always free to the rider! Through a partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol we provide motorcycle safety courses across our great state. Our courses are meant to improve riders skills with the overall goal of reducing collisions involving motorcycles.

Our courses are instructed by State Troopers assigned to the OHP Motors Unit. They will work hands on with riders to improve their skills in the following areas:

- Clutch Friction Zone
- Rapid Braking Techniques
- Cone Patterns
- Rules of the road
- Maneuvering in tight spaces
- Better control of your motorcycle

Requirements:
- Street Legal Motorcycle
- Valid 'L' Endorsed Driver's License (Previously 'M')
- Insurance
- Helmet
- Eye Protection
- Gloves
- Long Sleeve Shirt
- Boots that cover the ankle

Our Fall 2026 course dates/locations
Durant- August 29th
Shawnee- September 19th
Stillwater- September 26th
Edmond- October 10th
El Reno- October 24th

The courses begin at 8am and runs through usually 2pm, depending on the number of riders we have attend.

Upon completion of this course, riders will be provided a certificate to provide to their insurance provider for discounts on their insurance premiums.

Our Safe Rider courses are not designed to teach a person who has never ridden a motorcycle. They are meant to help riders improve on their basic riding skills.

This week has been a very long, very wet, yet very rewarding week for the Troopers assigned to the OHP Motor Unit.

Four of our Motors are in Washington DC assisting with escorts for National Police Week. Throughout the week our Troopers are providing escorts for the families of fallen officers.

Along with our Troopers Oklahoma City Motors also sent 4 of their Officers.

They have teamed up most of the week, seeing almost all of our Nations Capitol and surrounding areas. Their riding skills have been tested riding tight and fast formations with some of the best motor units in the country. Although wet, tired and worn out they have represented our state well! It is truly an honor to be invited to participate.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month...

As the weather starts to warm up, more motorcycles will be hitting the road. We’re asking all drivers and riders to stay alert and share the road safely...

Motorists:
• Look twice for motorcycles—especially at intersections
• Check blind spots before changing lanes
• Give motorcycles plenty of space

Motorcyclists:
• Wear a DOT-approved helmet and protective gear
• Use headlights day and night
• Ride defensively and stay visible

Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe for everyone!

Our Spring SafeRider courses wrapped up this past weekend in Tulsa & now that our Spring courses have concluded we are announcing our Fall course dates. We are looking to add a southern Oklahoma course and will announce that if we can secure a date/location.
