Oklahoma just made history for foster youth β€” and we couldn't be more proud to share this news.

Governor Stitt has signed Senate Bill 1806 into law, and Oklahoma Human Services is gearing up to launch a new Extended Foster Care program starting July 1, 2026.

So what does this actually mean?

Starting this summer, eligible young adults in Oklahoma's foster care system will have the option to continue receiving support past their 18th birthday and through age 21. That support can include Medicaid coverage, a monthly stipend, and continued access to a caseworker while they work toward their goals.

Research backs this up – studies show that extending these services reduces the likelihood of homelessness, exposure to illegal substances, and domestic violence for young people transitioning out of care.

This program is also available to young adults who found permanency through guardianship or adoption at age 16 or older β€” not just those who were in OKDHS custody at 18.

The focus now is where it belongs β€” on the young people this program was built for. Enrollment details are coming soon, and we'll continue sharing updates as July 1 approaches.

In the meantime, anyone with questions can reach out to [email protected] or call 1-800-397-2945.

What is "SNAP Payment Error Rate," and why does it matter?

The term is often misunderstood, and the calculation is more complex than many people realize.

In this video, we break down how SNAP Payment Accuracy is measured, the difference between errors and fraud, and why it has become an important focus for states across the country.

In Oklahoma, we are taking meaningful steps to increase payment accuracy.
πŸ‘₯ Through enhanced staff training, our team is learning new ways to catch and prevent mistakes before they occur.
πŸ”„ Updated processes are changing how we review cases to reduce errors at every stage.
πŸ’» We are also upgrading the tools our staff rely on every day to better support accuracy and efficiency.
This work is ongoing, and we are committed to continuous improvement in service to our most vulnerable Oklahomans.

If you receive SNAP benefits, keeping your case information current is one of the most important ways you can help ensure your benefits remain accurate.

May is Older Americans Month, and what better way to close it out than with a reminder that your health is worth championing every single day.

Whether it's a morning walk, a swim with a friend, a phone call with family, or simply keeping that doctor's appointment. Small, consistent choices add up to a longer, fuller life.

Here are a few tips to carry with you into June and beyond:
πŸƒ Keep moving β€” in whatever way feels good for your body
🀝 Stay connected β€” community is medicine
🩺 Stay ahead β€” preventive care is self-care

Here's to your health! 🌿

Something as simple as a bag can carry so much more than belongings β€” it carries a message. πŸ’™

Signed into law by Governor Stitt, SB 1377 allows Oklahoma Human Services to provide each child in our foster care system with a duffel bag and personal essentials as they move between homes β€” because the children we serve deserve to feel cared for, stable, and valued at every step of their journey.

Foster parent Maydson Shepherd put it perfectly:
"Something to put their items in that they could grow an attachment to and know that wherever they are, this is something that they can have no matter what, that it is theirs, that they do belong, and that their items belong also."

Stay tuned for more updates. πŸ’™

Did you know thousands of Oklahomans are paying more for Medicare than they have to β€” simply because they don't know help is available?

That's where MIPPA comes in.

The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) is a federal program that can help qualifying Oklahomans reduce what they pay for Medicare premiums, copays, and prescription drug costs. Eligibility is broader than most people expect β€” and it's completely free to apply.

We're here to help you find out if you qualify and connect you to the savings you're entitled to. It takes just a few minutes, and the savings can make a real difference every single month.

This year, Kristina Jones wasn't just celebrating Mother's Day, she was turning a brand new page.

After nearly 20 years of struggling with addiction, Kristina found her footing through resilience, support, and the right programs at the right time. Through ReMerge and the Oklahoma Human Services OK SNAP Works program, she earned her Commercial Driver's License at Superior Truck Driving Academy β€” and she did it in one try.

Oklahoma Human Services and OK SNAP Works helped cover the cost of her tuition, opening a door Kristina didn't know was possible. Today, she's in recovery, raising her four-year-old son, and stepping into a future full of promise.

"After every setback, she has come back stronger than ever before." β€” ReMerge

Stories like Kristina's are exactly why OK SNAP Works exists. OKDHS currently serves approximately 500 Oklahomans a month, helping people gain real credentials, real careers, and real hope.

Are you an organization that wants to make a difference? We're looking for partners. πŸ“© Reach out to us at [email protected]

When there aren't enough foster families, children get separated from their siblings. They get moved hours from their schools and communities.

We're proud to be the first state in the nation to join A Home for Every Child, a federal initiative working to ensure that homes are waiting on children, not the other way around. But initiatives only work when real people step forward.

A safe, caring home can change the course of a child’s life. Could your family be the difference for a child in Oklahoma?

Visit okfosters.org to learn how to become a foster parent.

The need is real. The time is now.
