Hill Encourages Students to Apply for House Page Program

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma House of Representatives is encouraging high school juniors and seniors to apply for the High School Page Program
Every year, hundreds of students from across the state have the opportunity to take part in the House High School Page Program at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City. Students participating in the program have the chance to view the legislative process up close and gain experience working in state government.
Rep. Brian Hill, R-Mustang, serves as director of the High School Page Program for the 58th Legislature.
"It's an honor to guide these students through their time at the State Capitol," Hill said. "It's always fun to watch their excitement and interest in state government grow as a result of their experience in the page program. This is truly a fantastic learning opportunity for students and a wonderful way to become civically engaged."
Pages accepted to the program are assigned for one week, arriving on Sunday and working Monday through Thursday afternoon, during the legislative session, which runs from the first Monday in February through the last Friday in May.
The students meet members of the House and other elected officials, work in the House Chamber during daily session, take part in the House Page Mock Legislature on the floor of the House Chamber and experience behind-the-scenes tours of areas of the Capitol and other agencies.
Hotel accommodations and chaperones are provided for all students and pages are transported to and from the Capitol daily. They are closely supervised at all times and are not permitted to leave the hotel or the Capitol.
Interested high school juniors and seniors may visit https://okhouse.gov/Pages/Index.aspx to learn more information and to submit an application.
A tutorial on the application process may be viewed at https://youtu.be/y5ZfSpmq55U.

Important information about the upcoming February 8th election!

On Feb. 8, some BA citizens will be able to cast their vote for the Zone 2 school board member as the seat is vacated.

After 10 years of service on the Board of Education, Zone 2 Board member Steve Majors has decided not to run for re-election.

Four candidates have filed for the seat:
• JW Berry
• George Ghesquire
• Robyn Havener
• Debbie Taylor

Due to the number of filed candidates, a primary election will be held Feb. 8 and runoff on April 5, if necessary. Only those citizens who live in Zone 2 are permitted to vote. Zone 2 includes Arrow Springs ECC, Leisure Park Elementary, Lynn Wood Elementary, Vandever Elementary, Sequoyah Middle School and the Freshman Academy.

To find your polling place, use the OK Voter Portal via https://okvoterportal.okelections.us/

Hello everyone, long time no see! I am very happy to announce that I will be interviewing the Broken Arrow & Union (time permitting) school board candidates! There are many amazing candidates, and I cannot wait for you to hear their stories!

Instead of just posting and gathering comments, I have created a survey that I am using to collect questions for the interviewees. The interviews will be very similar to the past city council candidate interviews with some set questions, and then some questions from the public. I would love to hear from everyone!

Thank you all for the past support and I cannot wait to see what we accomplish! - Aiden

Councilmember Lisa Ford and Mayor Debra Wimpee are officially sworn in

Following the swearing-in ceremony for incumbent City Councilor Debra Wimpee (Ward 1) and newly elected City Councilor Lisa Ford (Ward 2), the Broken Arrow City Council voted to elect Debra Wimpee as Mayor and Christi Gillespie as Vice Mayor at their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 20. Wimpee and Gillespie will each serve a two-year term in those roles.

With Lisa Ford joining the Council, this is the first time in Broken Arrow history that three women (Ford, Wimpee, and Ward 3 Council Member Christi Gillespie) will serve on the City Council at the same time, according to City records.

This is also the first time in Broken Arrow history there has been a female Mayor and Vice Mayor holding office at the same time.

This was an incredible election season! I have a few quick things I wanted to say:

⭐️ Thank you to all of the candidates for allowing me to interview them!

⭐️ Thank you BA for your support these past few months!

⭐️ Thank you BA for voting and DOUBLING last election's vote counts.

⭐️ Once again, congratulations to all candidates, even if not elected, congratulations on having the will to run and make a change!

This page will become a little dormant in the coming times, but I'll be back in 2023 for the next election! I'm sure you'll see me around town & at city council meetings, so feel free to say hello if you do! I may even have some state political projects in the works, as well as more local projects 😉.
