Micah Community Movement exists to support those on the margins, particularly the unhoused and elderly.

Micah Community Movement exists to support those on the edges of society, particularly the unhoused and elderly, by providing tangible resources and friendship, while providing college students the opportunity to impact those around them and grow their leadership skills.

"And we welcome and empower the next generations to serve in this mission" is part of our MCM Mission statement. Educating, challenging, and involving young people is an integral part of what we do. MCM was formed by college students doing street outreach (and still do!), VBS kids raise money for Center equipment, children pack care bags with their parents after church services, and this week a group of middle schoolers worked at the Center as part of their summer mission week. A big thanks to the OKC First Church students who took a tour, prepared hundreds of hygiene items, filled to go meal bags, and made dinner on Tuesday night. Baked ham and cheese sliders fed 42 unhoused neighbors, a first meal of the day for some. It takes all of us to care for all of us, and kids are a valuable part of creating a better society. URGENT NEED - barber/stylist ✂💈
Does this online community know a barber/stylist who might be available to do free haircuts tomorrow afternoon at the Micah Center? Our regular barber had a family situation come up, and our backup person is also unavailable. Drop me a comment if you have a suggestion. Thanks!

Hey everybody! This is our friend Byron! He started selling Curbside just last month, as a way to "stop selling my body" through plasma donation. He is a daily part of the Micah Center and one of the coolest neighbors I know. PLEASE buy Curbside at least 1x a month, it's only $2. It's a life changing program that gives unhoused individuals meaningful employment and help towards stability.

Do you or someone you know love to cook? We have several meal spots open this month and would love to receive your warm, home cooked meal for our unhoused friends at the Micah Center. Yesterday we served lasagna brought to us by Lakeside Methodist Church. Recently the Simmons brought soup, the Bells brought quesadillas, Jeannie brought beans and rice - you get the idea! Our Wash Room is a logistical challenge with washing laundry and dishes in the same space, but our volunteers get the job done! If you have a couple hours a week to wash laundry and dishes, join us! Big thanks to our partner Koinonia for bringing summer care bags to the Center today: sunglasses, hats, sunscreen, chapstick, snacks. Our unhoused friends love extra goodies and are grateful for all the ways our community supports them. They had either a cute mini-Jesus or wooden cross. Tiffany was excited to make a pin out of it 💛

This is the work of Micah - providing time and space for a game of chess. It's not just a game of chess - it's respite from the daily struggle for survival. A hot meal, clean bathroom, smiles, and listening ears allow our unhoused neighbors to take a deep breath.

Being an unhoused citizen of OKC (or anywhere) means you do a lot of walking and have to carry your most important items everywhere you go. Shoes and backpacks are the most basic and vital necessities of life outside. We triage resources at the Micah Center so we can provide everyone what they need when they most need it. We joke that our criteria for replacing someone's shoes is "are they talking to you?" And sometimes the need presents as big red blisters from shoes that don't quite fit because they were fished out of a dumpster. Our friends will ask for a new backpack under similar conditions - the zipper is ripping away from the seam or the bottom is threadbare and won't hold much longer.

Your support through a $25 a monthly Good Neighbor sponsorship provides a pair of shoes and backpack to a needy friend. And more than that, it eases the anxiety for a bit. It is an encouragement that people do care, that their needs do matter, and that in the throes of mere survival, they know where they can go for support.
