Lethality is built through training, teamwork and disciplined ex*****on.

Crew-served weapons give military units the firepower to support maneuver, establish fire superiority and help shape conditions on the battlefield.

But capability does not come from equipment alone. Soldiers must understand their responsibilities, communicate clearly and work together to employ their weapons as part of a larger plan.

That combination of people, training and equipment turns firepower into combat power.

The objective is clear: build ready teams capable of delivering the effects their mission demands.

Good leaders make the mission clear.

Commanders and leaders at every level are responsible for ensuring Soldiers and Airmen understand the objective, their roles and what right looks like. That requires more than issuing instructions. It means listening, confirming understanding and adjusting communication when circumstances change.

Clear communication reduces confusion, builds trust and helps teams make sound decisions under pressure.

Readiness depends on leaders who can translate intent into action and ensure everyone understands the mission.

Communication is more than a leadership skill. It is a readiness requirement.

Fire prevention protects people, property and readiness.

The 137th Special Operations Wing observed Fire Prevention Week last week with efforts to strengthen fire safety awareness across the Will Rogers airport community.

Wing leadership signed a proclamation reaffirming the commitment to fire prevention education. Airmen also joined Sparky the Fire Dog to share safety messages at Will Rogers Air National Guard Base, Will Rogers International Airport and the FAA Child Care Center.

The annual campaign’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety, Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” calls attention to safe charging practices.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Mallory Roth received the Oklahoma Star of Valor during a ceremony at the Oklahoma City Military Complex Oct. 8, recognizing her actions May 13, when she stopped along Interstate 35 to assist an unconscious child and transported the child and family to an emergency room.

The ceremony also marked Roth’s promotion, recognizing her professional growth and potential.

A promotion recognizes the potential to lead. The Oklahoma Star of Valor recognizes a moment when Roth went above and beyond to help fellow Oklahomans.

Both reflect a commitment to service, on and off duty.

Counseling. Coaching. Mentoring.

Three different tools. One purpose: developing Soldiers.

Counseling helps Soldiers understand their performance, identify strengths and developmental needs, and build a plan for improvement.

Coaching helps Soldiers develop the skills, behaviors and capabilities needed to reach the next level.

Mentoring builds a trusted relationship where experience and perspective can help shape a Soldier's long-term development.

NCOs play a critical role in all three.

Developing Soldiers is more than correcting mistakes or teaching tasks. It means knowing the people in the formation, investing in their potential and helping them become better Soldiers and future leaders.

The National Guard has a dual mission.

Defend the nation. Support the state.

Oklahoma National Guard Citizen-Soldiers and Citizen-Airmen train to answer the call wherever they are needed.

That can mean preparing for complex military operations one day and responding to a wildfire, severe storm or other emergency the next.

The mission may change. The standard does not.

Guardsmen must be ready to fight when called, respond when needed and adapt to whatever challenge comes next.

One force. Two missions. Always Ready, Always There.

Carry the load. Keep moving.

Nine Soldiers from the 120th Engineer Battalion took on the Norwegian Foot March hosted by Riverhawk Company Army ROTC.

The demanding endurance event tested each participant's ability to maintain pace and perform under physical strain.

Sgt. Abigail Averwater finished first in the female category, demonstrating the discipline and determination required to excel when the miles add up.

Every mile is a test. Every step is a choice to keep moving.

The battlefield is changing. Oklahoma Soldiers are changing with it.

During Exercise Thunderstruck 3.0, Soldiers from the 345th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion faced simulated threats from unmanned systems while conducting logistics operations at Camp Gruber Training Center.

One adaptation came in the form of drone cages placed over vehicles to help protect Soldiers and equipment from potential drone attacks.

It is a simple idea built around a modern problem.

Thunderstruck gives Soldiers the opportunity to test new ideas against evolving threats, identify what works and improve what does not.

Keeping aircraft in the fight takes more than pilots and maintainers.

Forward arming and refueling point teams provide the fuel and am******on that allow Army aviation units to sustain operations closer to the battlefield.

Oklahoma Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to Company A, 777th Aviation Support Battalion, train to operate these critical points while maintaining the speed, discipline and precision required in a demanding environment.

Their work keeps aircraft ready to launch, return, refuel, rearm and launch again.

That capability matters to the entire joint force.
