Our firefighters assisted the Okmulgee Public Schools with school bus evacuation drills this morning.

🔥 PROTECT YOUR HOME FROM WILDFIRE 🔥

Okmulgee County is currently experiencing conditions that can create a wildfire tinderbox. Extreme temperatures, very low humidity, strong winds, and moderate drought can cause vegetation to dry out quickly and allow a small fire to spread rapidly.

Now is the time to take steps to protect your home and property.

🏠 CREATE DEFENSIBLE SPACE
• Keep grass and weeds trimmed around your home.
• Remove dead vegetation, leaves, pine needles, and other dry debris from around your house.
• Keep firewood, lumber, and other combustible materials away from your home and outbuildings.
• Trim tree limbs so they are away from roofs, chimneys, and power lines.
• Keep gutters and roof valleys clear of leaves and other debris.
• Maintain a clear area around propane tanks and other fuel sources.

🔥 REDUCE FIRE RISKS
• Avoid outdoor burning when conditions are hot, dry, and windy.
• Never leave a fire unattended.
• Properly extinguish campfires and outdoor fires with water until they are completely cold.
• Be extremely careful with welding, grinding, mowing, and other activities that can create sparks.
• Never park vehicles on dry grass—hot exhaust components can ignite vegetation.
• Dispose of ci******es properly. Never throw cigarette butts from a vehicle or onto dry vegetation.

🚨 BE PREPARED
Make sure everyone in your household knows multiple ways to leave your property if a wildfire approaches. Keep important documents, medications, and emergency supplies ready to take with you.

Stay informed through Okmulgee County Emergency Management and be prepared to act quickly if evacuation information is issued.

Wildfires can spread faster than you can drive. Don't wait until you see the flames to prepare.

We want to thank all the candidates and firefighters for participating and helping with new firefighter testing on June 30th. Everyone did awesome. We would like to thank the Henryetta Fire Department for assisting us with their Ladder truck, the Okmulgee Family YMCA for letting candidates use their facilities to change for interviews and Okmulgee County EMS for providing an ambulance for medical standby.
