The City of Okolona was proudly represented at the Mississippi Municipal League (MML) Annual Conference in Biloxi by Mayor Sherman Carouthers, Deputy City Clerk Paige Ivy , and members of the City Council which includes Councilwoman Sue Morgan (Ward 1) , Councilwoman Angela Gardner (Ward 2) ,Councilwoman Chandra Trice (Ward 3), Councilwoman Marsha Gates (Ward 4), and Councilman Marlon Thomas (Ward 5) . Their participation reflects the City’s commitment to professional development, collaboration, and bringing back valuable ideas and resources that strengthen local government and improve services for the citizens of Okolona. Through networking with municipal leaders from across Mississippi and attending educational sessions, Okolona’s leadership continues to invest in the future of our community and effective public service.

Statement from the Office of the Mayor / President of the Okolona City Council on the Passing of Councilman Gene Barton Jr.

The Mayor and City Council are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Councilman Gene Barton Jr. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Although his service on the council was brief, he was appreciated for his willingness to serve the community and for the time he dedicated to the people of Okolona. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who mourn his passing.
