Today is the last day of school for many kids throughout Kansas City. Make sure to recycle what you can- papers, non-plastic folders, and notebooks (remove the metal rings first). And donate any usable school supplies to our friends at Scraps KC where they will be made available to teachers and students next school year. Have a great Summer!!

This year we are working with our friends at Scraps KC to get the word out about their School Supply Drive. Each year thousands of pounds of usable school supplies end up in the landfill after the school year is over. Consider hosting a supply drive at your school, business, or home and helping Scraps KC get these supplies into the hands of teachers and students that need them. Shawnee Mission School District, Olathe Public Schools, Blue Valley School District let's see which district can collect more supplies.

Cleaning out the garage? 🎨 Before you toss those old paint cans, here’s the scoop on how to do it safely.

✅ If the latex paint is completely empty or fully solidified, it can go in your trash. (Tip: Mix in some kitty litter or paint hardener to speed it up!)
🚫 NEVER put liquid latex paint in the trash.
🚫 NEVER put oil-based, alkyd or other flammable paints in the trash (even if they're empty).

If it’s still wet, take it to the Johnson County or Olathe Household Hazardous Waste facilities to keep our community safe and clean. ♻️

⚠️ When lithium batteries end up in our trash and recycling bins, they can lead to fires in collection trucks, landfills and recycling facilities. 🔥

DO NOT put batteries in your regular trash or recycling bin!

Both the Johnson County and Olathe Household Hazardous Waste facilities will accept lithium batteries for recycling. Home Depot and Lowe’s stores will also accept certain lithium batteries.
