Johnson County and partnering host sites will operate two cooling centers on the Labor Day holiday when other public buildings are closed.

The cooling centers will be open regardless of weather. Phone charging, snacks and cold drinks will be available at the facilities.

🚧 Big news for Johnson Drive!

Work is underway on Johnson Drive from Metcalf Ave to Lamar Ave, a project funded through a partnership between Johnson County and the City of Mission, KS - Government.

Key upgrades coming by Spring 2027:
🚦 Rebuilding all four lanes to support traffic for another 50+ years.
🚶‍♀️‍➡️ Widened sidewalks, ADA ramps and a new HAWK crossing signal at Riggs Ave.
🌳 Upgraded drainage pipes and native plantings to reduce local flooding and runoff pollution.

Johnson County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Mike Kelly has joined the advisory board for Accelerator for America, a nonprofit focused on creating economic opportunity by finding, sharing and scaling solutions to local challenges around community development, transit, infrastructure, housing and workforce development.
