Measles is not a seasonal virus. It’s often spread during times of high travel (spring break, summer, holidays) or in situations where unvaccinated persons are in close quarters.
As Kansas City welcomes visitors from around the world this summer, residents and travelers can help prevent the spread of measles by staying up to date on vaccinations and taking these precautions:
🟡 Check that you and your family are up to date on the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine.
🟡 The MMR vaccine is recommended for children starting at age 12-15 months and for any adults who don’t have immunity to measles.
🟡 Be aware of measles symptoms, including fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and rash.
🟡 If you think you have measles, stay home and call your healthcare provider before visiting a clinic or hospital.
