October 5th-11th is fire prevention week. This years theme is lithium-ion battery safety.

Old Bridge Fire District #2 firefighters will be visiting child care establishments and schools to hand out fire prevention material and give fire safety presentations throughout the month

We will also with the help of Cheesequake and Laurence Harbor Fire Department be holding our annual fire prevention poster contests in the elementary schools. Winners of the contests will be announced at each fire departments open house.

We often get questions about how and why building and fire codes are changed or enacted. Most of the time it is a result of an investigation into a large disaster or incident. The video below details the complex investigation into the the Champlain Towers South collapse incident in which some Fire District #2 members were involved in the response. This gives some insight into a modern day incident which is already having an affect on ordinances, codes, and standards.

Old Bridge Fire District #2 firefighters operated at a mutual aid incident during the recent heat wave. Below are some safety tips to follow during extreme heat.
-Stay indoors in air conditioning whenever possible. If you do not have A/C, the Old Bridge Township Library is a designated cooling center.
-Remain hydrated by drinking water and avoiding alcohol
-Check on those most vulnerable to heat including children and the elderly
-If you need to go outdoors, go early or late in the day and dress in light colored clothing.
