🚨 National First Responders Day 🚨

In 2017, Congress designated October 28th to be known as National First Responders Day which honors Firefighters, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Service and Public Safety Telecommunicators, Dispatchers who answer the call when a crisis arises, often putting their own lives on the line.

Serving as a national day of gratitude, National First Responders Day pays tribute to their services to their communities and honors fallen first responders. National First Responders Day is also a call for action to support first responders.

On behalf of the Old Forge Firefighter Drill School, we thank those first responders across the country and remind those in the fire service to continue to practice prevention measures.

Over the years, the Old Forge Firefighter Drill School and Old Forge Fire Department -NY have formed a great friendship / partnership with Rollin Mincher and his team at PEACE, Inc.

As this relationship has grown, we have been fortunate to recieve items to use at our various details and events which in the long run saves everyone money, putting a smile on the faces of the kids.

We come to you as its time to come together to help Rollin and his team out as they prepare for their second annual auction (see below):

I am writing today to kindly ask your consideration to participate with our second annual PEACE, Inc. online auction. Through your generosity, you can ensure PEACE, Inc. continues to pursue its mission "To help people in the community realize their potential for becoming self-sufficient".

PEACE, Inc. has been the community action agency for Syracuse and its surrounding communities for nearly 60 `years. The agency pursues a variety of essential services, including early childhood education, family development and case management, nutrition, food pantries, mentoring, senior support, aging-in-place, home improvements, tax preparation and more. Signature programs such as Head Start, Family Services, Weatherization provide the support and stability needed to help Central New Yorkers rise out of poverty.

The Old Forge Firefighter Drill School would like to take the opportunity to recognize a individual that we were able to connect with through our friends at the Cicero Fire Department

This person is Rollin Mincher of PEACE, Inc which is located in Syracuse, NY. Rollin and his dedicated team continue to be there for various organizations and emergency responders.

Over the last two years, Rollin was able to help us secure donated beverages for our Old Forge Firefighter Drill School, which allows us to concentrate on other areas of the event, knowing this task was completed.

Rollin, we value not only your partnership, however your friendship and thank you for all you have, continue to do for those in need.

👉 A Message from Instructor McIntyre 👈

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the 2025 Old Forge Firefighter Drill School which just concluded its 58th year.

I have had the privilege of being involved in one way or another for the past 14 years, starting as a vendor with Jerome Fire Equipment and eventually stepping into instructional roles.

One of the highlights for me has been helping to create and launch a new tradition, the Thursday night block party, Thunder in the Forge. It brought great energy to the weekend and added a fresh layer of camaraderie to the event.

Over the years, I have taught extrication courses and, more recently, led first responder electrial utility training sessions. This year was especially meaningful, as I not only continued with the utility training but also had the honor of participating in a roundtable discussion.

I am incredibly grateful to the Old Forge Fire School for the opportunity to contribute at that level. For those who attended the Friday roundtable, I want to thank you for your energy and engagement. It was a powerful experience to share the stage with the legendary Dave Dennison and five other fire chiefs from across the state.

While we did not all agree on every point, the discussion reinforced a shared belief: if we stand united, we can make a real impact on the future of the volunteer fire service. Things may never be exactly as they were, but there is still a path forward – one that requires unity and a focus on a common mission, not individual agendas.

Saturday's highlight was the National Grid Firefighter Electrical Utility Training. We trained 51 firefighters from 29 departments and one police agency. It was a proud moment and a strong reminder of our core mission: making sure everyone goes home safely.

In closing, I want to sincerely thank the Old Forge Fire School for allowing me to be part of such a meaningful program. I look forward to what the future holds, and, as I have said to many of you, I am always here to assist. Looking forward to 2026!

👉 2026 Old Forge Firefighter Drill School Dates 👈

As the 58th Annual Old Forge Firefighter Drill School comes to an end this afternoon with the “Big Bucks Raffle” drawing, many have asked what the dates will be next year.

In 2026, as a result of Labor Day falling on September 7th, the 59th Annual Old Forge Firefighter Drill School will be held September 17th - 20th.

We thank everyone for making this years fire school a success and look forward to next year as we try new things and bringing everyone together.
