Well, the dust has settled after another very successful Old Forge Firefighters Drill School.
There are a few people we would like to thank for being part of this years fire school. First and foremost is the FASNY front team, April Rounds, Emily Gilburt, Jon Barrett and Brian McQueen. They’ve been in it with us from The start, October 2022. If it weren’t for these four, not sure where’d we be.
Sometimes A “Thank you” just doesn’t seem enough. All four worked so hard in the planning stages right thru the last day.
We also need to thank FASNY for all they do to make sure this school is one of the best.
A huge thank you to all the first responders that attended and supported the Old Forge Fire Department. You all are family to us. Thank you so much.

Our fire department had reserved a room at the Pine Knoll Motel and now we don’t need it. Anyone out there searching for a room send us a message.

A quick reminder, this coming Thursday night, at the Block Party, there will be a a Corn Hole Tournament at the old Forge Firehall. All proceeds goes to a fireman in need for medical issues. The cost is $25.00 per person and is a team event.
There is no pre registration, so sign up that night.

The Old Forge Fire Fighters Drill school registration page has a big error that we should have caught!
The registration says after August 21 you can no longer register for classes and must register on site. That is wrong.

What it should have said was you can register for classes up to September 1st at the $50.00 rate. Any registration after the cut off date will be $65.00. So please register now and save some money.

So what is “Lash Cable”. You will definitely want to take this class after learning what lash cable is.

We had an awesome offer from National Grid, after the programs were printed. They will be presenting the First Responders Electrical Hazard Training. This is the latest addition to the National Grid Responder Safety Training Program. The training is 100% geared toward the Fire Fighters perspective
Complacency Kills and they will push not just another wires down call. They will be discussing the following Electrical Safety Topics: Downed Power Lines, car Pole accidents, transformer Fires and “Lash Cable”! You gotta hear about this!! PPE is NOT required. Check out the tri fold pamphlet that came with your 2023 Fire School Program.

This class is not in your programs so if you want to take this class, write it on your registration forms, it’s slated for Saturday Morning at 9:00AM.

06/23/2023

The 2023 Fire School programs will be in the mail tomorrow morning. If you haven’t received yours within the next week, send us your address and we will get one out to you.

Also, there will be an insert in the program from National Grid. Keep that, as there will be an announcement soon, regarding an awesome class by National Grid this year.

And a personal thank you to this years Fire School Committee! These people literally worked their butts off. When I was hospitalized just before Fire School, my first concern was the school. These people jumped in and made is as successful as our school ever had been. My heart felt thank you to each and everyone of you ❤️.

What a successful event this turned out to be. Our first ever Firefighters Youth Training Day was a huge success this was. All of the instructors for this were volunteers and spent their day instructing 30 Junior Firefighters in their expertise. This will definitely will be a yearly event for our future firefighters. A special thank you to Chief Jon Barrett, Brian McQueen, Otter Lake fire Department, Cicero Fire Department and the Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corp and FASNY for their help making this program work!
A special thank you to John Alfieri from Churchville Fire Equipment for their contribution to the Junior Firefighters
