Today is the day the Wynn Hospital receives its first patients with the help of Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Read the details below!

"Wynn Hospital move in day TODAY !

And they're off !!! The Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps Board of Directors were asked by MVHS to provide an ambulance and crew for the big day, moving patients from St. Luke's and St. Elizabeth's campuses to the brand new Wynn Hospital in Utica.

With the support of the OFVAC membership and our Chief, Danielle Hoepfl, the Board agreed it was an appropriate use of equipment and labor to help out an integral part of our communities emergency medical services.

Luckily two of our active members, husband and wife team Tory (driver) and Jenn (EMT) Dunn stepped up to the task. Jenn became an EMT in 2020 and subsequently joined the OFVAC. Tory joined our ranks in 2021 and both have become valued team members.

As an aside, the Dunn adult children are also active OFVAC members. Both Dawson (EMT) and Kerissa are in College full time but when available, have also contributed their time and talents.

When asked why they volunteered for this particular event, Jenn answered with... "We've always had a passion to help others in need. We both knew the second we heard of the event, that we wanted to participate.
We've experienced a lot over the past year and felt this was a way we could give back to the hospital and the EMS community that had done so much for us."

They left this morning at 0430 in anticipation to be on site by 0600 for instructions and to start loading patients by 0700.

We anticipate receiving some more pictures as the day goes by and we will share them as they come.

The OFVAC BOD wishes to thank Jenn and Tory for volunteering. Both today and in general for all they've contributed. "

We here at Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. want to give a HUGE SHOUTOUT and THANK YOU to Farkles’ Sparkles and the Deis Family for their donation to us!

Farkles’ Sparkles is an event that helps raise money to local charities and nonprofit organizations. In 2021, they collected, donated and presented $1,104.00 to OFVAC and this year more than doubled their donation by collecting, donating and presenting $3,400.00 to OFVAC.

It’s generosity from events like Farkles’ Sparkles and families like the Deis Family that help keep non profit volunteer organizations like ours going and their efforts do not go unnoticed!

**** EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM TEST ****

A message from the Herkimer County 911 Center Director John Raymond:

On Oct. 4, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) across every device in the U.S., including TVs, radios, and cellphones.

Here’s what you should know:

---What is the Emergency Alert System?

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a nationwide public alert system designed to quickly alert Americans about a national emergency across various devices within 10 minutes. The alert will be a sequence of loud noises meant to catch your attention.

State and local agencies can also use EAS to provide important weather updates, such as tornado alerts.

---When is the alert going to happen?

The nationwide alert is scheduled on Wednesday, October 4th for approximately 2:20 p.m. ET and will last around 30 minutes. During this time, you will receive an emergency alert on your devices.

However, it’s important to note that THIS IS JUST A TEST, and no action is required. FEMA is conducting the test to ensure that both the EAS and WEA are functioning properly in case of a potential national disaster or attack.

The message that cell phones will receive will be similar to this: “This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.”
