The recreational beds are finally clear of ice and ready for shellfishing! 🦪❄️

If you didn’t make it out to harvest your own today, no worries. Our commercial shellfishers work through the seasons and never take a break, so fresh, local shellfish are always making their way to market.

Stop by your favorite fishmonger and make sure to ask for fresh, local, and harvested with care. 🌊 - Or grab a permit at Sportsman Den and take advantage of the low tides.

It is with heavy hearts that the Greenwich Shellfish Commission says goodbye to our friend Ed Stillwagon. For over 20 years Ed was a shellfisherman, a valued partner, and a good friend. He generously shared his time and knowledge with the Greenwich community—often over his infamous raw bar—teaching the importance of sustainable harvesting and of being a steward of our coastal environment. He will be deeply missed.

This is part of a global initiative to protect our oceans and waterways by removing harmful non-biodegradable trash from the shoreline. It’s a great way to get involved, make a difference, and enjoy the beauty of our coast.

How It Works:
• All collected trash will be counted and recorded.
• The data will be submitted to Save the Sound, who will then forward the data to the Ocean Conservancy.
• This data helps track pollution and informs global strategies to protect marine environments.

Who Can Join?
• Everyone! Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are always welcome.
• Check-in is at the parking lot across from the first concession stand.
No beach pass required for participants during the cleanup hours.

🌊🐣 We’re incredibly lucky! For the first time in FORever, a pair of American Oystercatchers is nesting on at Greenwich Point — a rare and exciting sign that conservation efforts are working!

But they need our help. These sensitive shorebirds face many challenges, and the best way we can support them is by giving them space. Their nesting area is clearly fenced off — please avoid that area.

🛑 American Oystercatchers are protected by federal, state, and town laws, and disturbing them is a serious offense.

Let’s protect what makes Greenwich so special — and give these rare birds a real shot at raising their chicks.

💛 How you can help:
✔ Stay away from fenced areas
✔ Pack out your food and trash
✔ Report any disturbances
✔ Become a volunteer shorebird monitor next season!

Please contact local enforcement or ENCON and the Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds to report shorebird disturbances 📧 [email protected]

These oyster spat collectors are now in Greenwich Cove, ready to catch baby oysters (aka spat) and give them a fresh start in areas around Greenwich Point Park that could use a little shellfish TLC. Why oysters? They filter water, provide habitat & make our shorelines more resilient 🌊🦪💪
