POLICE DEPT. INVESTIGATES TWO VEHICLE THEFTS; REMINDS RESIDENTS TO LOCK CARS
OLD LYME, CT — August 27, 2026 — Local authorities are investigating the recent theft of two motor vehicles and are urging community members to take immediate, proactive steps to secure their property.
The vehicles were reported stolen over the past 24 hours from residential driveways. Investigators note that property crimes of this nature are frequently crimes of opportunity, where perpetrators target unsecured vehicles.
To prevent further incidents, residents are strongly encouraged to practice the routine safety habits below:
• Lock all doors every time you leave your vehicle.
• Remove all keys and key fobs from inside the car.
• Take all valuables inside, including phones, laptops, wallets, and bags.
• Hide remaining items completely out of sight if they cannot be removed.
• Park in well-lit areas or areas covered by security cameras when possible.
• Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement immediately.

Interactive boards will collect information from residents and our consultants will be there to explain the project. At 6:30 the Zoning Commission meeting will host a Community Workshop on the Zoning Regulations Rewrite. This workshop is an interactive program, run by our consultants, to gather information from residents and will focus on housing and residential zoning from 6:30-8:30PM.
