Democrats have put the Connecticut's 50-year bipartisan safeguards for state regulations on the chopping block in a bill before the Gov't Administration & Elections Committee today.

House Bill 5554 would "change the structure of the legislature’s Regulation Review Committee — the body responsible for approving state agency regulations before they take effect," according to Yankee Institute.

Enacted in 1971 to combat the growth of state agencies, the committee is equally balanced with Republicans and Democrats, providing necessary bipartisan review.

"The proposal represents more than a procedural adjustment. It would mark a fundamental shift in how Connecticut oversees the regulatory process."
