It was my pleasure to welcome the fifth grade students from Loranger Memorial School to the State House yesterday. They learned about the legislative process from the Clerk of the House of Representatives, debated a bill during a mock session, toured the State House and even got to meet the Governor!

Welcoming young OOB residents to the State House has been one of the highlights of my legislative service these past eight years. When I meet with our students, it always strengthens my conviction that the future of our community is bright.

I am so proud of this year's fifth graders, and I can't wait to see all they accomplish in the years to come!

Great news! Your pizza box or takeout container may look the same as it did last week, but on Monday, new regulations on PFAS in food packaging took effect to reduce Mainers’ exposure to these harmful forever chemicals.

Exposure to PFAS ("forever chemicals") is linked to significant health risks. Key effects include elevated cholesterol, a reduced ability to fight infections, developmental delays in children, increased risks of kidney and testicular cancers, and complications such as preeclampsia during pregnancy.

This new law, builds on our broader effort to eliminate PFAS from consumer products since 2019, including the 2021 law I sponsored that helped establish a framework for the Department of Environmental Protection to reduce PFAS over time.

Maine continues to lead on common-sense policy that protects public health and the environment. I’m so proud of our work!

Being elected to serve our lovely seaside community is the honor and privilege of a lifetime, and I take my responsibility to represent OOB at the State House very seriously.

That's why I make sure I am present for every vote. It is my commitment to you and to our community.

I am proud of the work we’ve done in the Legislature to help folks with the increasing cost of living - particularly with property taxes steadily rising over the past several years.

For example, there are a number of tax credit programs available for older Mainers and others on fixed incomes, such as the Property Tax Fairness Credit, which the Legislature increased for eligible Maine homeowners and renters.

For more information about these programs click here: https://www.maine.gov/revenue/taxes/tax-relief-credits-programs/property-tax-relief-programs

If you need additional guidance, York County Community Action is a great resource. Even if you have not recently filed, you may be eligible for credits to ease your property tax burden. Filing could not only provide additional tax relief, but will also allow folks to receive $300 relief checks.

The Center for Effective Lawmaking (CEL) released their State Legislative Effectiveness Scores for the 131st Maine Legislature legislative session (2023-2024).

Their analysis captures how successful a member of the Upper or Lower legislative chamber is at moving her sponsored bills through the legislative process.

I am pleased to state that their analysis found that I ranked as one of the most effective Democratic Representatives during the last legislative session.

It is an honor to be recognized for my hard work and on setting an example for promoting the importance of effective lawmaking - making the top 5 during the 131st Legislative Session.

Additionally, four Democratic Representatives on their current list were also among the top-10 highest scorers in the 130th Legislative Session, including:
1. Rep. Rachel Talbot Ross
2. Rep. Michael Brennan
3. Rep. Lori Gramlich
4. Rep. Rebecca Millett

That coupled with my 100% voting record- meaning I did not miss any votes taken in the House Chamber, makes the advent of my term ending bittersweet.

This is truly the best job I’ve ever had!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to remind all of us that it’s always okay to ask for help.

As a longtime social worker, I've worked throughout my career - including the past eight years in the Legislature - to improve access to mental healthcare for all Mainers.

If you, or someone you know, is struggling, support is available. Visit namimaine.org to explore additional mental health resources.
