Please join the Olean Fire Department in welcoming the 2026-1 Recruit Firefighter Training Class. This class will complete a rigorous 14 week training program to become professional firefighters. The program will cover a wide array of topics including basic and advanced fire ground skills, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication, physical fitness training and many other specialized topics.

Occupational cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty death in the fire service.

In 2025, nearly 80% of International Association of Fire Fighters member line-of-duty deaths were due to occupational cancer.

Every January, in honor of Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, we aim to raise public awareness of occupational cancer in the fire service and equip firefighters with the information and tools they need to reduce their risk.
