Today, Hayden and Marshall are here to let you know there are only FIVE DAYS LEFT to experience Saltpeter Cave this year!

Step back in time and explore Saltpeter Cave, a historic cave that once served as an important source of saltpeter for gunpowder during the War of 1812. Journey through more than 200 years of history and discover what makes this cave so special!

🦇 Saltpeter Cave Tour Times:

Saturday: 11:00 AM | 1:30 PM* | 3:00 PM
Sunday: 1:00 PM | 3:00 PM
Monday–Friday: 2:00 PM

*The 1:30 PM tour is a lantern tour — $15, ages 8+ only.

Admission:
Adults (13+): $10
Youth (3–12): $5
Ages 2 & under: FREE

Tours last approximately 60 minutes and begin in front of the Welcome Center. Tickets are sold at the Welcome Center.

And don’t forget about our Crawling Tour this Sunday at 10:00 AM! Get ready to crawl through narrow passages and explore a different side of the cave. Want more information on the crawl? Let us know!

🌲 Labor Day Weekend is almost here! 🌲

Make the most of your long weekend at Carter Caves State Resort Park! We have a full lineup of recreation programs and activities happening September 3–7.

From cave adventures and Glow Mini Golf to the Glow Paddle, Ghost & Legends Cave Tour, Glow Hike, Turtle Talk, Throwin’ Hawks, and more, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

The next week is going to be hot, so if you’re planning to hike at the park, please be prepared! Bring plenty of water, take breaks when needed, and don’t push yourself too hard.

Try to hike during the cooler parts of the day when possible, and pay attention to how you’re feeling. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the trails!

🌿 Naturalist Find of the Day: Io Moth Caterpillar!

Check out this colorful caterpillar! Io moth caterpillars are bright green and covered in tiny, stinging spines that can cause a painful reaction if touched.

They may look a little intimidating, but they’ll eventually transform into beautiful Io moths. Another cool example of the incredible diversity we can find in nature!
