Spicer Lake Nature Preserve will be closed tomorrow morning (May 1, 2026) due to paving work on County Line Road, which will be closed from the Toll Road to the state line. Paving is expected to be completed by 2:00 PM EST, assuming everything goes as scheduled. The preserve will reopen as soon as the work is finished. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!

Join us on May 2 from 8–10am at Spicer Lake Nature Preserve for an Early Bird birding and nature hike during the height of spring migration! We’ll explore the boardwalk and hit a couple of trails, taking in the plants and birds we encounter along the way. No birding experience is needed—everyone is welcome. Feel free to bring your own binoculars, or borrow a pair from us. Cost is $5 per person. Be sure to register and submit payment by Thursday, April 30 by calling (574) 654-3155.

The weather outside may be frightful...but it's about to get delightful! The first day of spring is this Friday, March 20 and the forecast is for temperatures in the 60s! Celebrate the occasion by joining us for a Spring Equinox Sunset Hike at Spicer Lake Nature Preserve from 7:15-8:15pm. Discover folklore and traditions around this special day and go on a self-guided, lantern-lit sunset hike to explore what is happening in the natural world at the start of spring. Enjoy spring-themed refreshments to end the evening. $5 per person; please call 574-654-3155 to register by Wednesday, March 18.

The Maple 101 program and Friends of Bendix Woods & Spicer Lake meeting scheduled for tonight, January 14, has been RESCHEDULED to Wednesday, January 21. Meet at the White Barn Harvest Room at 5:30pm at St. Patrick's County Park. During the program participants will learn about the history of maple syrup, modern syrup-making methods, and how the sugaring operation works at Bendix Woods County Park. The program is a perfect introduction if you would like to volunteer in our Sugar House or tap your own trees at home! The 45-minute presentation will be followed by refreshments and a meeting of the Friends of Bendix Woods and Spicer Lake where you can hear updates about volunteer opportunities and other ways that the Friends support the parks.
