Marlow Volunteer Fire Department is proud to recognize two of our members, Damien Eitel and Benjamin Pontello, on successfully completing the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course hosted by ACEMS.

Training and professional development are opportunities that our volunteers consistently embrace, and we appreciate the time, effort, and commitment Damien and Benjamin dedicated to completing this program.

We look forward to having additional trained responders available to assist with our community's needs, particularly medical assist calls, which represent the highest call volume for our department.

May was Mental Health Awareness Month. In our line of work, we often focus on physical strength and readiness, but mental health is just as vital to our mission.

The reality is that firefighters and EMTs are regularly exposed to trauma, stress, and high-pressure situations that most people will never experience. Over time, these experiences can contribute to higher rates of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and burnout.

True readiness means taking care of our minds just as much as our bodies. It takes strength and courage to speak up when you are struggling, and no one should ever feel like they have to carry the weight of this job alone.

We are continuing to work toward ending the stigma surrounding mental health within the fire and EMS service. If you or someone you know needs support, please reach out to a trusted friend, peer support member, mental health professional, or utilize the 24/7 confidential resources available.

You are never alone, and asking for help is a sign of strength — not weakness.

May has been a busy and exciting month for the students and staff at Grand Oaks Elementary School. We were honored to join them for two special events — Career Day and Water Day!

These events are a wonderful way to celebrate the end of another successful school year, and we always appreciate the opportunity to spend time with the students, staff, and families. Whether sharing about emergency services during Career Day or helping everyone cool off and have fun during Water Day, it is always a pleasure to be part of these memorable moments.

Thank you to Grand Oaks Elementary School for the invitation and continued support. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer break!

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to protecting the freedoms we enjoy today will never be forgotten. While many spend today with family and friends, let us also take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this day and remember the heroes who gave everything for others.

May we live in a way that honors their legacy — with gratitude, compassion, and unity.

Today, we remember. Today, we honor. 🇺🇸

During the timeframe of May 16th through October 14th, burn permits are NOT required for open burning in Tennessee. However, practicing safe open burning is something that should be observed year-round.

Even though you may not be required to apply for a burn permit during this time period, please remember to follow important safety precautions when burning:

• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep a water source or tools nearby
• Avoid burning on windy or dry days
• Keep fires away from structures, woods, and dry grass
• Burn only natural vegetation permitted by local regulations
• Ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area

Taking a few extra precautions can help prevent wildfires, property damage, and injuries. Help keep our communities safe by burning responsibly.

Today kicks off National EMS Week 2026 — an opportunity to genuinely recognize and show appreciation for all those who serve within the emergency medical services community.

These brave men and women faithfully answer the call to serve our community during some of life’s most difficult moments. Whether responding in the middle of the night, providing comfort during emergencies, or delivering lifesaving care under pressure, their dedication and compassion do not go unnoticed.

Words could never fully express our gratitude for all that they do each and every day. Thank you to all EMS professionals, both career and volunteer, for your unwavering commitment and service to our communities.

Today, the members of the Marlow Volunteer Fire Department would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing mothers in our community and beyond.

Thank you for the countless sacrifices you make, the love you give so freely, and the strength you show every single day. We especially want to recognize the mothers who serve in emergency services, as well as the wives, mothers, and grandmothers who support our members through late nights, missed holidays, trainings, and emergency calls.

Your love, encouragement, and support make what we do possible.

From our firehouse family to yours, we hope you have a safe, blessed, and wonderful Mother’s Day!

This Saturday, May 9th, we will be at Windrock supporting KRX Invasion while also hosting a fundraising event for our department.

If your UTV needs a wash, stop by and see us—we’d love your support!

We will also be providing standby emergency response coverage throughout the day’s events, should the need arise.

We hope to see you there!
