KTG Foundation Partners with Oliver Springs Police Department to Provide Sensory Bags for Autism Awareness and Safety
Jennifer King of the KTG Foundation recently joined officers from the Oliver Springs Police Department to mark a meaningful partnership aimed at improving interactions between law enforcement and individuals on the autism spectrum. As part of this initiative, KTG Foundation will be donating sensory bags that will be carried in patrol vehicles and used by officers during calls involving individuals with autism or sensory processing challenges.
The photo commemorating this moment highlights a shared commitment to compassion, understanding, and community safety.
Sensory bags are thoughtfully assembled kits that include items such as noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools, and other calming resources. These tools are designed to help individuals regulate sensory input, reduce anxiety, and improve communication during what can often be overwhelming or high-stress situations.
For law enforcement officers, having access to sensory bags can make a critical difference. Encounters with individuals on the autism spectrum may sometimes be misunderstood due to differences in communication, eye contact, or responses to authority. Sensory tools provide officers with immediate, practical ways to de-escalate situations, build trust, and create a safer, more supportive environment for everyone involved.
"This partnership is about equipping our Officers with the tools they need to better serve every member of our community," said Chief David Laxton.
KG Foundation continues to advocate for individuals with special needs by promoting awareness, accessibility, and community partnerships across East Tennessee. By working alongside local law enforcement agencies, the KG Foundation aims to ensure that all individuals, regardless of ability, are met with understanding and respect.
