Meet Them. Share Their Story. Make a Connection.

✨ The Pit Bull Social ✨

On June 13, we're inviting the community to stop by the Saint Louis County Pet Adoption Center, meet some of the pit bulls currently waiting for homes, and help them get seen. Spend a few minutes with a dog, snap a photo, and share them with your friends, family, and followers. That simple act could be the connection that changes everything.

In fact, every dog you share during the event will earn you entries into our event raffle. The more dogs you help get in front of new people, the more chances you'll have to win.

Here's the thing: when a shelter or rescue shares a dog online, that post has to compete with thousands of others for attention. Most people never see it. But, when you share a dog, that dog reaches your people and your community. Someone who may have never known they existed. Sometimes finding a home starts with nothing more than a new set of eyes.

So, come meet a pit bull. Take a photo. Share their story. Make a connection whether it be with you or someone that sees their face virtually because of you. You don't have to adopt a dog to make a difference for one.

And if you'd like to help even more, we're also collecting donations of small, bite-sized training treats. These treats are used every day by shelter staff, volunteers, and rescue partners to reward good choices, build confidence, and help dogs learn while they wait for homes.

And if one of the dogs happens to steal your heart? You can start the adoption process right there.

🛑Stop ⬇️ Drop 🐾BOP!

Meet Bop: the 2-year-old, 54-pound sweetheart who is ready to be your best friend!

Bop recently got to leave the shelter behind for a few hours on a doggy day out! While it's clear that Bop is too overstimulated in the shelter, it's even more obvious how much she thrives outside of it ❤️

When Bop got home with her volunteer, she showed her true colors. She is such a snuggle bug and enjoyed cuddles on the patio. Bop is also a belly rub aficionado, and she grunts when you scratch the right spot! Bop even got a bath and handled it like a pro.

Bop is friendly with calm dogs but does not care for cats very much. She has been around older kids (young teens) and did well!

She also is VERY food motivated which always helps make training a little easier! 🦴

If Bop sounds like the girl for you, come meet this angel today! Get signed up to foster or adopt Bop using the links below 💙

Placement Needed for Two Special Dogs

We are seeking placement partners and/or experienced individuals with demonstrated expertise in working with dogs with backgrounds consistent with dogfighting survivorship.

Today we're asking our community to help connect us with transfer or placement for two special dogs. Legend and Dolly are currently at Saint Louis County Animal Care & Control and are in need of transfer with an experienced rescue organization or placement with qualified individual. These dogs were part of a recent cruelty investigation involving suspected dog fighting. While a connection to dog fighting is considered likely, it has not been confirmed. Since their arrival, both dogs have undergone and passed multiple behavior evaluations by Saint Louis County's behavior team, with additional assessment support from Even Chance.

DOLLY
-Female, approximately 2 years old
-Passed both dog-to-dog assessments
-Confident, energetic, people-oriented, and toy driven
-Easy to handle for routine care and veterinary procedures
-Appropriate and neutral around other dogs
-Loves her people

LEGEND
-Male, approximately 2 years old
-Passed dog-to-dog assessments
-Successfully engaged in play with another dog
-Social, playful, soft-natured, toy-driven and easy to handle
-Offers the most adorable submissive grins

Both dogs are young, resilient and highly affiliative. Despite the circumstances that brought them here, like a true Pit Bull, they continue to show optimism, enthusiasm, and a strong capacity for connection.

Saint Louis County Animal Care & Control is currently operating over capacity and, like so many shelters across the country, is facing difficult decisions with limited space and resources. Getting even a few dogs safely moved into rescue can make a meaningful difference.

If you are with a rescue organization, have placement connections, or would like additional information, photos, videos, or behavior notes, please reach out by email to [email protected].

A final note: This post is about helping two dogs find an opportunity. We fully support the staff and leadership at Saint Louis County Animal Care & Control and appreciate the tremendous amount of work they have invested in these dogs and this case. We are proud to have partnered with them throughout this process and remain committed to supporting positive outcomes whenever possible. Negative comments will not be tolerated. Let’s please keep the focus where it belongs: helping Legend and Dolly find a path forward.

☀️ Beat the HEAT, Keep Your Pets COOL ☀️

With the warmest weather of the season here, it's so important to remember your pets! Check out these tips and warning signs to make sure your pet is safe and comfortable in this weather!

🚗 NEVER leave pets in cars during hot weather... not even for a minute! Temps inside of cars rise very fast and be deadly.
🌊 Cool and FRESH water is a must. Refresh water for pets often.
🐾 Protect those paws! Hot pavement = hot paws. Try walking early or late and stick to grass.
👀 Be vigilant for the signs of heat stress: Lethargy, heavy panting, and vomitting.

IF your pet does overheat, here is what to do:
✔️ Move your pet to shade or inside to AC
✔️ Use cool water and towels (NOT COLD!)
✔️ Offer small amounts of water at first
✔️ Take your pet to a vet ASAP

Stay cool out there, Saint Louis County, and make sure to keep your pets safe! 💙🐾

As always, we are so thankful to operate in such an amazing community ❤️🙌

Over the weekend, a boil order was put in place for the area surrounding our shelter. That can be a big deal when there are nearly 300 pets here at the shelter who rely on our systems for clean water.

Well, over the weekend we had several community members stop by the shelter to donate clean and safe water. Some even were impacted by the boil order themselves and still managed to think of our shelter and the pets here! 💙

Thank you to everyone who donated water over the weekend!

Did you know it's Pet Appreciation Week?? The week serves as a time to recognize pet owners’ responsibilities toward pet care, fostering, and adoption. Pet owners can also use the week to appreciate their pets for being beloved companions!

And this week, many more pet owners have the chance to celebrate!

❤️ In total, 53 pets found their forever homes during our emergency adoption event last week! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our shelter during this population crisis! While getting that many pets out of the shelter is a blessing... unfortunately our intakes exceeded how many pets we go out. 😣

📢 WE ARE DESPERATLEY CALLING FOR MORE FOSTER FAMILIES!! 📢

Whether you can foster a large dog, or a mom and her puppies, we need you to step up today! Fostering through our shelter is easy, with support and materials provided by the shelter! The only requirement is a loving home for the pet you foster!

Did you know there are dozens of Pit Bulls in our shelter right now waiting for someone to notice them?

Here's the thing — when a shelter or rescue shares a dog on social media, that post has to fight for space against every paid ad, every brand, and every algorithm designed to bury it. Most people never even see it.

But when you share a dog? It goes straight to your people. Your community. People who would've never known that dog existed.

That's the whole idea behind The Pit Bull Social.

Come meet a pit bull. Take a photo. Share it. That one post could be the reason they find a home. And if one of them happens to steal your heart? You can start the adoption process right there.

Ruh-Roh Raggy!! 🦴

Introducing the one-and-only Scooby! Scooby here is a very handsome 3-year-old male labrador retriever mix who is ready to make the perfect pet for one lucky family!

Scooby weighs about 65 pounds and is ready to be the best weighted blanket you ever had! He came to our shelter back at the end of April after he was confiscated by police. He did have some minor injuries when he arrived but is now doing great!

During his time here, Scooby has been selective with which dogs he gets along with. For that reason, we would require a dog-to-dog meeting with any other pups who may already be in your home.

This handsome boy is ready to find his forever family! Come meet Scooby today while adoption fees are waived!

Remember, every foster and adoption makes a TREMENDOUS IMPACT on our current population crisis. Please stop by and meet our pets today ❤️🐾

🐾 Adoption fees WAIVED for ALL dogs and adult cats!! 🐾

With more than 160 dogs in the shelter, it can be easy for folks to look past some of our senior friends... but seniors often make wonderful pets and deserve a loving home too!

Some dogs spend their younger years learning tricks… Josalyn spent hers perfecting the art of companionship. And at 8 years old, she’s truly mastered it.

This lovely 50-pound lady is all about life’s finer things: cozy sweaters, tasty snacks, gentle walks, and soaking up affection from her favorite person. Josalyn walks beautifully on leash and is happiest when she’s simply by your side, enjoying the moment together.

She prefers to be the only dog in the home — not because she’s difficult, but because she believes your love should be reserved entirely for her (and honestly… she’s earned it).

If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who will keep you company on quiet walks, share the couch, and remind you daily how special senior dogs are… Josalyn might just be your girl. 🐾💕
