*ATTENTION*

Landlords if you have homes for rent please contact the Olla Town Hall to be added to a list of contacts for people searching for a home to rent.

Residents please go to the Olla Town Hall for a reputable list of individuals with homes to rent.

My office has been contacted by two different people that were scammed on a "rental" here in Olla where they used the pictures taken when the house was for sale and now that the home has sold they are scamming people. Please do not put a deposit on anything without first meeting in person and having a contract. If its a home for rent in Olla but they live out of state that should be a red flag so be extra cautious. The attached picture is the scam I am referring to, the home was sold months ago but these Facebook scammers from out of state are taking deposits and then reposting it under another fake account. Be safe

Since we are getting a Homeland Bank here in Olla and our residents use it be sure to never click on a link from any unsaved number on your phone. Once you click the link they get access into your phone and all of your saved data. If you get a text message or email from your bank/credit card company give them a call to talk to a person at your local branch.

Another recent example of a phishing scam. If someone receives a message such as this there are a few things to do. Contact your financial institution to verify through them if any potential fraudulent activities have occurred. Don’t trust websites that direct you to a site other than your financial institution’s site. Phishing scams will often include names or words that attempt to legitimatize their scam but will still appear deceptive.

LA DOTD arrived this morning and we were informed at that time they will be working on LA 124/Rosefield Road between U.S. Highway 165 and Cypress Street railroad crossing. Plan accordingly if you travel between there and please let any truck driver you know about this so they do not get stuck waiting so we do not have traffic backed up. Thank you

We had a great time yesterday with our little bicycle rodeo where we got to teach the children about Louisiana bike laws, the correct hand signals to use, and giving them their very own bicycle drivers license! We then got to show them our LiDar, how it worked, and then got to see who was the fastest "speeder". We decided to get our top three a gift card from Burger Barn to enjoy a milkshake of their choosing! 1st was Mr. Cam, 2nd was Ms. Birdie, and 3rd was Ms. Laney!!!! We were happy to pick up this tradition and hope to build on top of it for years to come.

We have had several reports from people around town about scammers calling/emailing them requesting money via gift cards/wire transfer/money orders. Please please please do NOT send these people money at all. I have heard that they say they are the IRS, Border Patrol, Department of Justice, and the "local law enforcement" saying they need you to pay or they will show up to arrest you. I have also heard of them saying you need go pay the taxes on a large amount of money you have won amd they will deliver the winnings to you. Please do not fall for these claims! If you have won money ask yourself did you enter a contest to win this money and why can't they take the taxes out of the winnings? If they claim to be of law enforcement background we do not call you and say we will show up unless you pay this money that is not how the law works. If you get any call like this just tell them not to call again and hangup, if you know anyone that could fall for these scams please contact them and make sure they know about this information because if they send the money it is nearly impossible to get it back even with the help of the Alexandria FBI office because gift cards are untraceable and that's why they have moved to them. It kills me when I take these cases and they have sent the money so I am posting this praying that it reaches our older community or our younger community that can help get the word to their loved ones before this happens again.

If you are worried that something you get in the mail/email is a scam please come to my office and let's make sure that it's legitimate before you send anything or contact the sheriff's office if you are outside of the city limits so we can stop this in our parish. We would rather sit with you for a bit and make sure so we can all breathe a little easier.

Some changes to the LaSalle parish burn ban effective on 10-6-2023 at 7p.m. You will be allowed to burn in an elevated metal container as long as it's attended. If your fire is left unattended or gets out you will receive a citation. If the number of calls escalate due to people not abiding by the burn ban or their fires getting out we will go back to the don't burn anything.

No burning leaves or sticks on the ground.
No burning in holes in the ground.

Thanks,
LaSalle Parish Fire Chiefs
