🚨 MOCK FLIGHT 🚨
On Sunday our crew conducted a “mock flight” simulation to orient our newest nurse Jessica to the skies! This simulation provides our newest members with the tools they will need to load/unload patients, scene management, and helicopter safety.

A big thank-you to Carle Ambulance service for joining us during our mock flight training! Exercises like these strengthen teamwork, enhance preparedness, and help ensure we're ready when our community needs us most. We always enjoy working and training together!

Rachel Smolinski, Director of Quality at LCMH, and Tom Allen from AirEvac, presented at the second First Responders Event at SipIt, highlighting LCMH's comprehensive services including Pediatrics, children's Therapy Services, Primary Care, and Specialty Services available locally in Lawrence County, while Tom discussed the Lawrence County Municipal Membership and its benefits for county residents.

Most of our district is considered “rural,” and many areas can be difficult to access. A call today in the northwestern part of our 168 square mile district brought together Christy Fire, Arrow EMS, Jasper County EMS, the Olney Fire Department ,with their SXS, the Richland Co. Sheriffs Dept, and Air Evac Lifeteam 150 - Olney, IL.

Different agencies. Different equipment. One team working together to provide patient care.

That’s how the fire and EMS service is supposed to work. Rural medicine is not always easy, and there’s no magic “easy access” button hiding out in the beans unfortunately. But when departments work together, good things happen.

Get to know Alex:

1. What made you want to become a medic?
- I never planned to be a medic, I stumbled upon an EMR class in high school and fell in love with the job! I just kept taking more classes and it kept working, and somehow I ended up flying!

2. What’s something people don’t realize about being a flight/EMS medic?
- There’s a saying in EMS that the job is 90% boredom with 10% of pure adrenaline. That applies just as much to the flight world as it does the ground.

3. What’s your favorite snack or drink on shift?
- Ski, in a glass bottle! (You know who you are.)
