❄️ Winter Weather, Heavy Snow & Ice Safety Reminder ❄️

☃️With heavy snow and icy conditions impacting our area, your OVAA crew🚑 would like to remind everyone to take extra precautions. Snow and ice can quickly create dangerous situations both at home and on the roads.

⛄️ Heavy Snow Safety
❄️Avoid unnecessary travel when snowfall is heavy
❄️Roads may become impassable quickly—plan ahead and stay informed
❄️Keep your vehicle fueled and stocked with winter emergency supplies
❄️Give snowplows and emergency vehicles plenty of room

🌨Ice Safety Tips
🧊Be alert for black ice, especially on bridges, overpasses, shaded roads, and early mornings
🧊Walk slowly and carefully on icy surfaces; wear footwear with good traction
🧊Keep walkways and steps treated and cleared when possible
🧊Use handrails and avoid rushing to prevent slips and falls

⚠️Driving in Snow & Ice⚠️
🚗Stay home if possible
🚗Slow down and increase following distance
🚗Brake gently and avoid sudden turns

🏠 Home Safety
🏡Prepare for possible power outages with flashlights, batteries, and blankets
🏡Check on elderly neighbors and those with medical or mobility needs

If you have an emergency, call 911 immediately. Your OVAA crew🚑 is always ready to respond, but staying cautious and prepared helps keep everyone safe. Stay warm, stay alert, and stay safe this winter! 🚑❄️

Re-sharing this because it has the same message! Plan a sober ride today/tonight, and help keep the roads safe!

When you drink and drive, you're not just putting yourself at risk – you're endangering everyone on the road.

Alcohol impairs your reaction time, judgment, and coordination.

The legal consequences are severe, and the emotional toll is immeasurable.

Choose your future over a drink. Choose life over a drive.

Stay sober. Stay smart. Stay safe.

🎆 Ring in the New Year Safely! 🎆

As we say goodbye👋 to the old year and welcome the new, The OVAA crew wants everyone to celebrate smart and stay safe.

✨ A few quick reminders:
• 🌟If you’re drinking, don’t drive — plan a sober ride home.🌟
• Slow down and watch for impaired drivers on the road‼️
• Keep fireworks legal, safe, and away from children.🎇
• Dress warm and limit time outside in the cold.🥶
• Check on elderly neighbors and loved ones.👵👴
• Know when to call 911 — we’re always here if you need us.🆘️

We’re proud to serve our community 24/7, even while celebrating alongside you. Have fun, be responsible, and help us make it a safe start to the New Year.

🚑 Happy New Year from the OVAA! 🎉

🌟 Spotlight on Mallori Mathews, EMT-B 🌟

Meet Mallori, one of our newest EMT-Bs who joined us this July! Coming from a family of paramedics and with experience as a dispatcher☎️, EMS has been part of her life from the very beginning. When a OVAA member invited her to join the EMT basic class after she moved here, she jumped at the chance!

Mallori’s favorite part of the job? Simply helping others. She says keeps motivated by Knowing she is making a difference💪. Her advice to new EMTs: study hard and don’t get discouraged!📖

She loves serving our small but mighty community — calling it “one big family.” Like many EMS pros, she sticks to a couple of superstitions, like avoiding the “Q” and “S” words on while on duty!

Fun fact: Mallori had brain surgery when she was just 11 years old. Outside of work, she enjoys running🏃‍♀️, reading 📚, and baking.🧁

If she had to describe EMS in one word, it would be “Fixing” — because "We’re helping make improvements one step at a time."

We’re so proud to have Mallori on our team! 💙🚑
