I’m thrilled to share that four of my bills have officially passed the Senate and the House — and I’m excited to see them signed into law soon! Here's a quick look at what they do:

✅ SB 5556 – Modernizes Washington’s Adopt-a-Highway Program to boost transparency, support volunteers, and help keep our highways clean and free of litter.
✅ SB 5627 – Strengthens our Call Before You Dig law to improve worker safety, increase enforcement, and modernize the system used to protect underground utilities.
✅ SB 5702 – Streamlines the process for setting toll rates in Washington by replacing the lengthy rulemaking procedure with a more flexible, transparent system.
✅ SB 5435 – Makes the Public Employees’ Collective Bargaining Act easier to read and navigate by organizing it into clearer, more user-friendly sections making it more accessible for everyone.

Each of these bills is about making government work better for the people of Washington — whether it's keeping our highways cleaner, improving safety, or increasing transparency and access.
Thank you to everyone who has helped push these bills closer to the finish line!

Today, on Dolores Huerta Day, the Senate unanimously adopted Senate Resolution 8646, honoring former State Representative Phyllis Gutiérrez Kenney. I was proud to co-sponsor this resolution and speak on the Senate floor to recognize her trailblazing leadership.

Rep. Gutiérrez Kenney broke barriers for Latinos, immigrants, and underrepresented communities across Washington. Her legacy is a testament to the power of Latino representation and the impact of leaders who lead with courage, compassion, and justice for all.

This week, we unveiled two very different transportation budget options to explore all possible solutions, both crafted through a bipartisan effort. One would impose devastating cuts, delaying projects, underfunding maintenance, and slashing investments in ferries and the State Patrol — jeopardizing our infrastructure.

The other is a bipartisan revenue plan that invests in safer roads, reliable ferries, and good jobs to keep our transportation system moving forward. We’re committed to passing a budget that strengthens Washington’s future, not one that holds us back.

Read more here:

One option is an all-cuts transportation spending plan that would postpone projects. Another would finish promised projects with a boost in the gas tax.

I’m excited to share that my bill, SB 5627, has passed the Senate! Whether you're digging at home or on a job site, knowing what's underground is crucial. This bill makes it easier to track utility markings and confirm when it’s safe to dig. It also ensures utilities are marked on time and helps keep workers safe. The bill is now headed to the House for consideration!
