Awareness matters.

Many servicemembers and veterans experiencing gambling harm do not seek support. Stigma, concerns about confidentiality, and uncertainty about where to go can delay help.

At the same time, low rates of screening mean that many individuals may not be identified through traditional systems of care.

This gap between risk and access is a real challenge.

Awareness helps close that gap.

May is National Women’s Health Month, and this week highlights Women’s Health Week.

Mental health plays an important role in overall well-being. For many women, stress can come from balancing work, family, caregiving, and daily responsibilities.

These pressures can sometimes connect to behaviors that are not always easy to recognize, including gambling-related harm.

Paying attention to changes in stress, sleep, or emotional well-being can help identify when support may be needed.

Creating space for connection also matters. In a podcast released a few months ago, we explore how women in recovery are building supportive communities and safe spaces to share their experiences and find a path forward.

Research shows that veterans are at higher risk for gambling-related harm compared to the general population.

Gambling can be shaped by access, environment, and lived experience. It often overlaps with other behavioral health concerns such as stress, depression, substance use, and PTSD.

These patterns are not about individual failure. They reflect broader conditions that influence behavior and access to support.

Understanding risk is an important step toward prevention and care.

Children’s Mental Health Week is a reminder that mental health starts early.
Young people are affected by the environments around them, including stress within families and communities.

When adults are struggling, including with gambling-related harm, it can impact the well-being of children and families.

Helping youth make healthy choices and build strong foundations early can make a lasting difference.

Creating space for conversation, stability, and support makes a difference.

Military Appreciation Month is a time to recognize the commitment and sacrifice of those who have served.

It is also an opportunity to better understand the challenges that can shape health and well-being during and after military life.

Gambling-related harm is one of those challenges.

Like other behavioral health concerns, gambling harm is influenced by stress, environment, and access. It can affect individuals, families, and communities in ways that are not always visible.

Awareness is part of how we support those who serve.

Mental health is an important part of everyday life. It shapes how we think, feel, and connect with others.

During Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to recognize that challenges don’t always show up clearly. Stress, changes in mood, or feeling overwhelmed can be connected to deeper concerns.

Gambling-related harm is often part of that bigger picture.

Knowing what to look for can help you take the next step.

Today is National Therapy Animal Day.

Animals have been part of healing for centuries, from early care settings in the 1700s to the therapy programs we see today. Their impact is simple but powerful. They bring comfort, reduce stress, and create connection when it’s needed most.

At ECPG, we carry that forward through our Healing Animal Adoptions program. Casey the Service Dog and Skye the Therapy Horse represent the strength, calm, and companionship that therapy animals provide every day.

When humans and animals connect, healing can begin.

During National Minority Health Month, we are reminded that health outcomes are shaped by more than individual behavior.

Gambling harm is influenced by environment, stress, and access. In many communities, economic pressure, targeted advertising, and limited access to care can increase risk. For some, gambling becomes a way to cope with stress or a perceived path toward financial stability.

Research also shows that risk can shift across generations, particularly in immigrant communities, where exposure, expectations, and access to support systems change over time.

Understanding these factors is essential to building effective prevention and recovery efforts.

April is National Minority Health Month, a time to recognize the disparities that impact health outcomes across communities.

In gambling harm prevention, these disparities are clear. Research shows that historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups experience higher rates of gambling and problem gambling yet are less likely to access treatment services such as inpatient care or helplines.

This gap reflects systemic barriers including stigma, lack of culturally responsive care, and limited awareness of available resources.

At ECPG, we are committed to expanding access, reducing stigma, and ensuring that support reaches all communities.
