Thurston Solid Waste This is the official page of the Thurston County Solid Waste Division, your waste prevention resource.

Thurston County Public Works' Solid Waste Division provides resources and information to properly dispose of waste in a safe, convenient, and cost-effective manner while fostering responsible resource use. To accomplish this, the Solid Waste Division manages three disposal facilities in Thurston County, Washington: the Waste and Recovery Center in Hawks Prairie, and the Rainier and Rochester Drop

Box facilities. The Division also provides outreach in our community to youth, residents, and businesses on the topics of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste and proper waste disposal.

Are your garden tools dull? Get them sharpened at today's Fix-it Fair at Prosperity Grange, 4-7pm. Bring your loppers, pruners, shovel, or other garden tool that need a sharp edge.

Note: We will not be sharpening kitchen knives at this event.

Today is the Fix-it Fair at Prosperity Grange! Bring your broken, torn, and non-working things (up to 2) and volunteers will help diagnose and repair them. 🪡🛠🚲 We'll be there from 4-7pm and look forward to seeing you!

Pre-registration is currently closed, but walk-ins are encouraged.

The main things to keep in mind are:
♻ Clean everything before you arrive.
♻ Bring all parts with you, if you have them.
♻ No microwaves or gas-powered engines.
♻ Only bring items that can be carried by one person.

Want to help Thurston County residents be more sustainable? If you have a passion for recycling right, composting, and waste reduction, then consider becoming a volunteer with the Thurston County Master Recycler Composters. 🐛 ♻ 🌎

MRC volunteers are trained to be community educators on the topics of recycling, waste reduction and composting. They help people become better recyclers and composters, while increasing awareness about waste reduction.

MRC volunteers serve Thurston County in many ways, including:

🐛 Making compost at our composting demonstration sites.

❓ Answering questions from the public at in-person and virtual Question & Answer Clinics.

😎 Helping with behind-the-scenes projects to advance the mission of the MRC Program.

It's Fair time! Visit us in the Sharp Building.
Our friendly and knowledgeable Master Recycler Composter volunteers are available all weekend to help you answer your composting, recycling, and waste reduction questions. We also have some fun activities for kids and adults.

Thursday July 30, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. - Tickets $1 with a non-perishable food item donation.
Friday July 31, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday August 1, 10a.m. to 10p.m. - Tickets $2 for First Responders & Military. Bring your ID
Sunday August 2, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. - Tickets $2 for Youth ages 6-14. Under 5 is always free.
