How does Washington help ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly? One way is by regularly reviewing how state agencies buy goods and services. 🤗

On June 23, DES completed our latest statewide review, marking an important milestone. Thanks to improved practices and an effective use of state dollars by adding dedicated staffing, we cut the review time in half!

That means agencies get feedback and guidance sooner, helping them strengthen their purchasing practices and continue serving Washingtonians. 😁

What happens when a building’s repairs are projected to cost more than the building’s worth? 🤔

Legislative Support Services needed a modern workspace, but the projected building repair costs totaled $6.2 million. For a fraction of the cost, at $1.1 million, we moved LSS into the historic Dolliver Building on Capitol Campus. 😁

Originally housing the Olympia post office, the Dolliver Building now serves as another hub that engages public officials and citizens at our state’s Capitol! Learn more about the project: DES.wa.gov. 🌐

What happens when a small contractor gets its first shot at public works? 🤔

At Clark College in Ridgefield, the first completed project through the Washington EDGE pilot program finished ahead of schedule and below the original cost estimate – while helping a local business gain hands-on public works experience. 🤗
