Know the Difference: Heat Exhaustion vs. Heat Stroke

Hot weather can quickly become dangerous. Knowing the warning signs could help save a life.

πŸ’§ Heat Exhaustion
Heavy sweating
Dizziness or fainting
Muscle cramps
Weakness
Cool, clammy skin

🚨 Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency)
Confusion or unconsciousness
No sweating
Body temperature of 103Β°F or higher
Red, hot, dry skin

If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately and begin cooling them down while waiting for help.

Stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and check on family, friends, neighbors, and pets during hot weather.

Please join us in welcoming our newest volunteer firefighters, Brayden O'Connor and Willow Brown, to Griffin Fire Department!

Both Brayden and Willow have stepped forward to serve their community, dedicating their time and energy to protecting the residents of the Steamboat Island Peninsula. As they begin their journey in the fire service, they will be training alongside our members and gaining the skills needed to respond when our community calls.

We are grateful for their commitment and excited to have them as part of the Griffin Fire family. If you see them around the station or out in the community, be sure to say hello and welcome them aboard!

Welcome to the team, Brayden and Willow! We are excited to have you with us and look forward to watching your fire service journey begin.

Mark Your Calendars, Steamboat Island!

The annual Steamboat Island Community Picnic is almost here, and Griffin Fire is excited to be part of this great community tradition!

Stop by Prosperity Grange on Saturday, June 27, from 12:00–4:00 PM for an afternoon of family fun, local vendors, live music, face painting, an inflatable obstacle course, Lighthouse Alpacas, and more.

πŸš’ Griffin Fire will be there with an engine and ambulance on display, fire hats for the kids, and a chance to cool off by spraying water with firefighters.

Whether you're a longtime resident or new to the neighborhood, this is a great opportunity to connect with your community and enjoy a fun summer afternoon.

We hope to see you there!

A friendly reminder from Griffin Fire - when an emergency happens or you need immediate assistance, please call **911 first**.

While we are always happy to help our community, calling the fire station directly can delay our ability to respond to your emergency. Our administrative phone lines are not monitored 24/7 and may not be answered immediately, especially when crews are responding to calls, training, or assisting others in the community.

By calling 911, dispatchers can quickly gather important information and ensure the appropriate resources are sent to your location without delay.

Whether it's a fire, medical emergency, hazardous situation, or other urgent need, 911 is always the fastest way to get help on the way.

Thank you for helping us serve our community safely and efficiently!
