To stay in touch with House Bill 1110, a proposal in the state legislature to impose a costly, regressive and unworkable LCFS fuel policy, follow Affordable Fuel Washington.

The Legislature should consider investing in a robust, nonpartisan economic analysis program to help members and the public better understand the ramifications of major policies, writes The Seattle Times editorial board.

We oppose costly, regressive and unworkable fuel policies that would unfairly burden Washington citizens, farmers, employers and families with no guarantee of significantly reducing greenhouse gases.

Last November, Washington state voters soundly defeated a massive tax on fuel and energy (I-1631), a deeply flawed proposal that would have cost us billions in for the form of higher energy costs with no guarantee of reducing carbon emissions. Now, the WA legislature is proposing a new costly and unworkable fuel policy – often referred to as “LCFS” – that would unfairly burden families and small businesses in our state. Affordable Fuel Washington has formed to oppose this legislation. We encourage you to follow Affordable Fuel Washington here on Facebook, or visit their website (affordablefuelwashington.com) and get involved today. There are many ways you can make your voice heard, beginning with getting connected today. https://www.facebook.com/AffordableFuelWA/

An overwhelming majority of Washington voters looked at the facts about Initiative 1631 and soundly rejected this poorly written, costly and unfair measure. Our success would not have been possible without the steadfast support of our coalition. Whether putting up lawn signs, talking with family and friends, sharing facts on social media, or encouraging others to join the coalition, the efforts of those opposing I-1631 made a huge difference throughout the campaign and particularly on Election Day. On behalf of the entire campaign team and our coalition, thank you to all who devoted your energy to the worthy cause of defeating this deeply flawed and poorly written energy tax.

Our coalition is joined by Washington’s leading newspapers in urging for a NO vote on 1631, including The Seattle Times: "Climate change is a crisis needing an aggressive, coordinated response, not expensive and unaccountable spending measures like Initiative 1631." http://ow.ly/c1PF30mwA8P

Climate change is a crisis needing an aggressive, coordinated response, not expensive and unaccountable spending measures like Initiative 1631. Voters concerned about the environment, the cost of living and the sustainability of Washington’s economy should reject this dubious approach. Instead,...

It's Election Day! Still time for you and your family and friends to vote NO on 1631 to STOP a costly, unfair and ineffective new energy tax. Washington families and small business would pay billions for 1631 in the form of higher prices for gasoline, electricity, heating fuel, natural gas, and everyday products we buy -- increases of $440 in the first year for the average household, rising automatically to $990 by 2035, with no set cap. This highly regressive tax would hit low-income and fixed-income Washingtonians the hardest. The billions collected under 1631 would then be handed over to new unelected board of political appointees, with no specific plan and no accountability for how the money would be spent -- a blank check to spend as they choose. Finally, after 15 years and $30 billion, 1631 would not guarantee *any* significant reduction in greenhouse gases -- Washington would be no closer to reaching its goal and 93% of emissions would be left completely untouched. The deep flaws in 1631 are why our coalition and Washington's leading newspapers are urging a NO vote to defeat 1631.

"… [I-1631] provides no specific spending plan, too little accountability and no requirements to reduce greenhouse gases. It gives an unelected board of political appointees a blank check to spend billions as they choose, without real legislative oversight or accountability to voters. … On Tuesday, Washingtonians should reject 1631."

Imposing a carbon fee would be a costly, unfair and ineffective tax, writes Bob Edwards, past president of the Association of Washington Cities.

Two days left to defeat I-1631, a costly, unfair and ineffective new energy tax. I-1631 would increase the price of gasoline by 14 cents right away, automatically rising to 57 cents by 2035, with no cap on how high it could go. Urge your friends and family to vote NO on 1631 to STOP a new tax on Washington families and small businesses.

Time is running out to vote NO on 1631 to stop a costly, unfair and ineffective new $2.3 billion energy tax that would be paid by Washington families and small businesses, and would do nothing to impact climate change. Spread the word to family and friends. Help us to be sure that every NO vote is counted. Use the Secretary of State's website for voter information. Leave no NO vote uncounted. http://ow.ly/bPhG50jApNF
