May is National Treatment Court month.

Treatment courts reduce crime and restore individuals by addressing substance use and mental health disorders. They unite public safety and public health to prevent fatal overdoses, strengthen families, and make communities safer.

Research shows that treatment court participants save an average of more than $6,000.00 for every individual they serve. By ending the cycle of crime, the courts save on incarceration costs, re-arrests, and court involvement.

Additionally, treatment courts are the single most successful intervention in our nation’s history. They lower incarceration costs, increase tax revenues, and lower foster care expenses.

Our Community Court has restructured to be a treatment court as of September 2024. In honor of National Treatment Court Month, the Olympia Community Court will host a special hearing on Wednesday, May 21, from 10:30 am-1:00 pm. You are invited to attend, in-person or by zoom, for a keynote address, special acknowledgements, and the treatment court calendar. A reception will follow.

We hope you will join us!

Happy Law Day! ⚖️

2025’s Law Day’s theme is The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One. Its time to reflect on our commitment to the rule of law, the freedoms it protects, the separation of powers it promotes.

This week our OMC team joined forces with New Market High School’s Criminal Justice class to talk about our the important of the judicial branch and civic engagement.
