IN MEMORY OF FRED G. ALLINSON
WSFFA President, 1980 | A Lifetime of Leadership, Service, and Dedication

Fred G. Allinson devoted 39 years to volunteering as a firefighting and a lifetime to strengthening the fire service. His career began in 1963 with King County Fire District 2, where he served for 30 years and rose to Battalion Chief. He later served with North Highline Fire District as Battalion Chief and Volunteer Coordinator.

Fred was a dedicated leader of the Washington State Fire Fighters’ Association, serving on its Board from 1973–1983, as WSFFA President in 1980, and for 17 years as the Association’s conference coordinator.

In 1987, Fred became a founding Board Director of the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and served as Chairman from 1995–2001. During his leadership, he helped secure more than $1.5 million for volunteer firefighter education, training, and protective equipment. He also testified before Congress on behalf of volunteer firefighters and served with numerous national fire-service organizations.

Fred’s contributions were recognized with many honors, including Fire Chief Magazine’s Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year in 1999, Fred Allinson Day proclaimed by the King County Council in 2001, and the NVFC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.

His legacy continues through his commitment to train future generations of firefighters.

Above all, Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Fred’s legacy lives on in the firefighters he served, the organizations he strengthened, and the generations who continue to answer the call.
